How long before bed or what time do you stop eating?

Recommended Posts

I've read and been told not to go to bed with food in my pouch. I was just curious how many hours before bed does everyone eat last. Or does anyone have a specific time they don't eat past?

I try to have nothing in my stomach at least 3 hours before bed, otherwise gravity cannot help it move through the stoma.

Also, I've been told that if you eat too soon before sleeping that you will wake up tighter in the AM, and have trouble eating Breakfast (which is why many bandsters resort to shakes in the AM). Maybe that's true, or not, but I am always able to eat my oatmeal in the AM.

Due to night-time reflux, I try not to eat 3 hours before bedtime. For those that have no reflux problems, I dont think there's a time limit.

Some bandsters just chose to have a 3 hour fast before sleep (like Paul mentioned above)

Also, some bandsters have a practice of drinking Water (water being the last thing through your pouch) before bed to "wash" out the pouch. This isnt doctor recommended - just something older bandsters learned and passed on.

i usually dont eat anything else once ive eaten dinner which is about 6:00. otherwise it becomes a habit to want something every night.

Also a really good point. I bet for many of us, night snacking was and IS an issue.

I try not to eat past 8 PM just because of metabolism issues. Your metabolism can slow down in the evening. That's my mantra to help avoid evening snacking!

Also, I've read that bandsters shouldn't eat then lie down soon afterward as it can cause discomfort. I've never tried it so I don't know if it's true.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
