Does it still hurt you to eat or drink?

Recommended Posts

I'm over 2 months out of surgery and it still sometimes hurts me to eat or drink. For instance, when I start drinking my first bottle of Water for the day, the first few sips hurt my tummy but then it usually stops. The same thing happens with the first few bites of food, regardless of how soft the food is or the size of the bite. Does this happen to anyone else? When will it stop?

On a positive note, the gurgling that I used to feel all the time when I would eat or drink only happens now when I get full. If I under eat my sleeve, it doesn't usually happen.

I have never felt pain from eating, but did once from drinking too much to fast early on! Dr. said that was my sleeve "Working". He said if I felt pain, it was telling me to either slow down, chew better or take smaller bites.

I have always gurgled and still do at 4 months out. It is so annoying!!!

I'm so early out but I have heard others say they are swollen or tight first thing in the morning,

At 4 months out, if I eat too fast or don't chew enough it feels like some one sucker punched me in my stomach. So I've learned to follow the guidelines and it helps

I had the pain from swallowing the first few weeks. Dr. said it was from swelling and acid. I started Prilosec OTC and after almost 2 weeks it got a lot better. I still feel it a little sometimes in the morning or when I eat or drink on a completely empty stomach.

I don't think it's from not following the guidelines as someone suggested. I just think it takes some of us longer to heal and the acid affects us more. I'm talking about when i swallowed anything, even my own saliva. So how in the world can that be eating too fast or too much! LOL! I'm 8 weeks and it's a lot better. But it was some serious pain and no one told me about it before.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm thinking that it's a combination of a still healing tummy and possibly swelling overnight. I've noticed that the pain really only happens in the morning when I have my first food or drink of the day.
