Hi Guys

Im 27 years old 306 lbs and standing just above a hight of 5'9.

From birth to about the age of 20 i was always pretty healthy maintaining my weight without ever noticing it sometimes a lil chubby other times healthy.

When i started working and making my way i started to eat more and i stopped playing sports and moving around as much.

Lo and behold my weight started shooting up really fast till i had really no control of it. I've always loved food. I am a self prescribed food addict and i love cooking

and i would eat just about anything i liked till it hit the spot. The spot started becoming bigger and bigger if u know what i mean.

I got married at 24 and that just made me start eating more. (eating out etc) I started having marital problems and that just honestly made it worse cause i spent a good 6 months getting healthy at the gym losing 34 lbs in that time and i had given up smoking also then it happened . My wife and i got separated and i fell into a downward spiral , i gave up the gym took back smoking and eating and i felt happy honest to God. It took me one month to regain what i had lost in the span of 6 months in only a month!!

I stayed that way for monthsand justified it with the fact that life is crap and it's gonna end one day i might as well enjoy it while i can.

After about 8 months of this i slowly started to come to. I didn't feel comfortable at work i felt like all the world was staring at me and judging how fat i am.

Normal tasks were really tiring and i was out of breath all the time.

I then decided it was time for a change. Funny enough that day one of my friends from work had just gotten the VSG done. So i went to visit him and saw how he was 3 days post op and i was astonished at how much he could move and he told me the pain was minimal. I started considering the possibility of WLS.

I went to so many doctors and asked around and did the research and finally got a date for my op.

I did my op on the 4/18/11 and went through nausea and i vomited black blood which was a first ECKH! and i felt no pain except for when they removed the drain. Its now been 6 days post op and im down a bunch and on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks then mushies 2 weeks after that. I didn't really do a pre op diet cause i didnt have time (the only appointment available for another 3 months was 4 days from the consult) . Im feeling good except for the gas a lil hunger and when i breath deep i feel pain in the middle of my left rib cage , other than that im happy i did it and im looking forward to the future and a new life :D

To all you sleevers out there i wish you a prosperous journey .

Such a great story, I can totally relate. I was an average in high school, lost weight in college and since 2003 I've slowly put on 100lbs due to numerous things of overeating, working two jobs, getting married and my thyroid. I found myself eating like a pig in hiding, but eating like a bird in public. There are always an multitude of excuses. I had two friends who were sleeved earlier this year - one friend admitted to not following the plan as scheduled like working out, etc. and she has lost 60lbs since May 2011. I was sleeved on 8/17, and have lost 20lbs since 08/15. I noticed yesterday in the shower it was so much easier to scrub my feet than before and that's when it hit me, that losing weight is actually happening!

I have been experiencing ALOT of emotional stress and changes before and after the surgery. I am questioning everything, "Is this where I really want to be in my life?", "Do I want to be married?", "Do I want to take the same way to work everyday?". I know it's things I have to deal with on my own so I decided to see a therapist on the side. My husband is totally supportive but something this severe makes me question everything.

I too had black blood which freaked me out but was assured it was normal due to the tubes. Good luck to you!

Hey Metri

Thanks for sharing :) I totally understand what you mean when you say you question everything now. In fact i think for me it was the whole questioning , even my own existence , that led me to the sleeve. Just hang in there Metri cause i think we are all creatures of habit , and when change hits us we tend to either go with it or it's a complete shock to our system and we feel like the world is crumbling down. Take it slow , and open about how you feel. By be open i mean to yourself. I wish you well on your journey and if you need any support im always here :)

Wow, I have to say your story is similar to mine (I am also 27, married at 23, and your emotions)....except I'm a woman.:) I was actually overweight as a child, then lost weightt in high school and became popular....which really messed with my psyche and self confidence...so when I gained over a 120lbs after high school, I felt I was worthless. Started missing functions because of embarrassment (even my five year reunion.) I am having my surgery on this Tuesday and am excited! I think I will start talking to a counselor right away to help me cope. Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
