I'm not banded yet, but I suffer with severe chronic hip pain and lower back pain when I'm about to fall asleep. I have to take AMBIEN to help me fall asleep and not wake during the night. If I don't take AMBIEN, I would be up most of the night.

It's great and it's safe. Your PCP would have to prescribe the medication. If all else fails, try it. It gives me a solid 7 hours sleep.

Feel better.

Hey Funny, I was banded on July 11, so right behind you. I know what you mean when you talk about uncomfortable feeling. I didn't sleep the first two nights, but did sleep good on the 3rd night. I took some Tylenol before bed and I think this seemed to work. I get gas pains worse than anything else. How long do these last? Gas pains that is.

I feel really good tonight. I am hoping that sleep will come easily. I appreciate all of the advice. As weird as this may sound, I am not a drug person. Give me a bottle of scotch and I am good. But I HATE taking drugs for pain or for sleep. the only reason I took the pain shot and the sleeping pill in Mexico was becuase I knew that I needed some rest before the flight or they would not let me leave. I am the kind that tries to do everything naturally before going the medical route. Hence my waiting on getting the band and researching for a year. LOL I am sure that tonight will be easier, and every night after progressively.

Hi sherri!!! I am good. I have been around. You might not have caught my posts. I am glad to hear you are doing well.

Marlluvia, congratz on the band!! We are going to see big changes soon!

Mini me. I missed you. Thanks for thinking of me girl. Hugs

Sherri, Funny,

Did you guys both get the same band? Do you think that that's the same one I'll get?

Hey, check it out- that butterfly's made it halfway down the ticker.

I don't know what kind of band Sherri got. I got the inamed VG 10cc band. But I am a lot bigger than sherri. So she might have gotten the small one. I don't know if that makes a difference. LOL

I just realized i hijacked your thread. My apologies! Just anxious and curious about what's gonna happen. Sorry! Hope you slept again last night.

I know exactly the uncomfortable pain you are talking about!! I will still get that exact pain if I let myself get too hungry or if I over eat. I have had my band for 5 1/2 years and I still hate that feeling!! I love my band though and wouldn't trade it for anything! Sometimes I will take a couple of motrin to help and it usually does. It will ease up soon, I promise and maybe you won't have that feeling anymore like I do. Most people say they don't after a week or so. Good Luck

I take ibuprofen (motrin) now for arthritis and was told by my surgeon no more after surgery. Does it bother you at all taking the Motrin? I hate thinking I have to give it up, but he said definitely I would along with carbonated beverages. Your answer is appreciated.

Congratulations on your new band FunnyDuddies. I was banded the day after you were. Sorry you had such a hard time getting a good sleep, but it sounds like things are improving for you now in that respect:) BTW, I love the Soup from your Soup train!

Marlluvia, I had gas pains really badly on days 3 and 4, then my mother suggested drinking a glass of Water with half a teaspoon of bicarbonate soda in it to dissolve the gas. I did that this morning (day 5) and haven't been nearly as uncomfortable today (either the gas was moving anyway, or the old wives thing really works)!

Deana.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
