Ripping burning pain in largest incision

Recommended Posts

I am almost two weeks out and I am having a ripping burning pain in my largest incision. It doesn't hurt all the time just when I make certain movements like stand from sitting, lay on my side or bend over on my right side ( which is where the incision is). It's the weekend so I can't reach my surgeon yet and I wanted to see if any one else has experienced this. I just took some pain medication so I don't know if it will help. I did take my son to the zoo two days ago which was pretty intense exercise considering there are a lot of inclines; maybe I over exerted myself I have no idea...Please help me I'm in pain and can't sleep comfortably.

YES I also had the same experience. The muscles are recovering. They stretched that incision the most of them all! Iam 8wks post-op and it went away around 4 or 5 weeks. I even posted on here back when I was 2 weeks out and alot of responses also had the same feelings you are having. It gets better! : )

My right insicion is pretty intense. If I don't take my pain meds at the scheduled time, it starts hurting. It is really uncomfortable when I'm turning inbed or when I go to stand up. I hope you feel better soon!

Yes, I had this too. You have an internal incision that is about 2 inches long through your muscle. This is where they took the stapler in and out and your stomach out. They used some type of device that stretched in open while they were working on you. I actually had a dent right above my largest incision for about 5-6 weeks and the nurse practioner explained why. I actially had no pain there until around 3 weeks out. It would happen when I'd climb into the truck, sit the wrong way, bend, sleep. It would feel like it was burning and ripping. It freaked me out the first time I felt it so I called the doctor. They asked if I had been a little more active than usual and of course I had because I was starting to feel better. They said it was perfectly normal. It stopped hurting around 6 weeks and no more dent either.

Thank you everyone for ur responses I'm glad someone else has experienced this b/c I was starting to think I was experiencing some type of surgery complication. I am due back at work tomorrow and I hope it doesn't get any worse. My job isn't too active so I should be ok.

Mine feels the most like that when I walk. Which sucks cause I may not be walking as much as I need to. I'm trying not to take pain meds. I have a huge dent under that incision and a numb space from there to my navel... It's just weird.

Thank you SO MUCH for this post! I have such a burning pain that I called the doctor and she said it was normal, but I couldn't figure out how this was normal!!!! It is keeping me from more strenuous exercise. I am glad to hear that there is an end in sight!

I don't mean to be rude but what possessed you to wash the floor on your hands and knees after major surgery?

I am three days post op and I have the same thing going on. I leaned over in my chair and felt something give a bit. I have been in pain ever since. I talked to the nurse in my clinic and she suggested using a heating pad to help with the discomfort and it has been helping.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
