Super Tired 3 weeks out

Recommended Posts

I am just over 3 weeks post op and feel like I am doing really well. This week, though, I've noticed I'm sooooo tired all the time. I'm on mushies, but still mostly drinking full liquids... at least 70 grams of Protein. Any suggestions? Is this normal? Thanks.

I an 3.5 weeks out and exhausted every day. I could take a nap every day if I had the time. For me, I know I am not getting enough calories in. But I think it is normal for many people. My primary physician warned me about the fatigue months ago before my surgery.

I am 2 weeks out and I have 1/8 of the energy I had pre-op. I suppose 21lbs of weight loss in 2 weeks can do that to you! I have found the more protien I get the day beofre the better I do the next day. I am finally getting my target of at least 60 grams starting this week!

I was in the fatigued camp too. It's perfectly normal, not to worry. I was pretty much exhausted, and I mean really bad for the first two months.

In time as I started progressing to solid foods and better choices (more balanced) and kept taking my supplements on a regular basis my energy levels increased. Now I'm a spitfire of energy!!! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
