What fitness routine worked best for you?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!!!

I've been doing workouts at home because I can't decide what to do. I lift weights, work out on my thigh and bun rocker, and treadmill. Its not giving me the results I really want. I've thought about Zumba, gym membership, and personal trainer. There are so many different exercises you can try but I wanted to know what everyone's daily workout routine was and what worked best for you.

I walk, run, use my total gym, and workout tapes. I like to mix it up to keep myself interested and keep my body guessing. That is what works for me!

My preferred method of exercise these days are bootcamp and crossfit classes. There's generally a good mix of resistance training, bodyweight exercises, and high-intensity cardio, and you'll hit all major muscle groups and be totally exhausted before the end of the hour. It also forces you to push yourself harder than you would on your own, and it takes the guesswork out of planning your workouts. I've subscribed to a ton of these group-buy websites (Groupon, Livingsocial, Dealfind, etc), because they often offer discounts for either a month of unlimited classes or a pass for X number of classes for very little. E.g. I recently got a pass for 20 CrossFit classes (must be done within 90 days) for only $30.

I do fitness kickboxing 3x a week if I'm not working late and group power strength training at the gym 2x a week and I walk on Sunday's 2-3 miles. I need to mix it up a little bit though.

I usually walk about 1.5 miles a day and lift weights 2 to 3 times a week

I started running 2 months ago and I am seeing tremendous results. When I started I couldn't run more than a half mile. This past weekend I ran 5 and 1/3 miles. I also incorporate some strength training. BBJ mentioned CrossFit and I have a lot of friends swearing by it. I am considering giving that a go as well based on all of the positive recommendations. Good luck finding your groove! :)

I joined a gym and got a personal trainer, helps for motivation and she keeps changing work out so muscles don't get memory. Also makes sure on my road back I don't overdo. Three weeks out of surgery only could do 1/2 hour on wednesday and today a full hour on the weight machines.

I show early for walk on treadmill then workout then stretching for three days per week and at least hour walk another two to three.

Still working out the bugs in my "routine" but at 8 weeks, it looks like this:

4-5 times per week 30-45 mins of aerobics

3 day's of weights (lower weight, higher # reps)

So far so good...but again, I'm 8 weeks out so we're in the 'easy money' time anyway I guess...not that it's "easy" but you understand...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
