I'm brand new to bariatric pal. I'm looking forward to reading all the wisdom and advise here. I started my pre op liquid diet on the 9th and have my sleeve surgery on Friday. I'm EXCITED and nervous. I have a concern I'm hoping someone will be able to relate to. I've lost 2 pounds since the 9th on this liquid diet. Is that and indicator of the weight loss after surgery? I've felt really excited as I've read the success others have had from the beginning. I find it amazing to be able to be at this point and on the verge of surgery. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

This post was exactly what I needed. I'm getting sleeved on 12/2 and am really excited. I just needed some pointers and encouragement.

I have a suggestion. We all have to admit that we have an eating problem or they would not have approved our Psychological review for the surgery. But the real problem lies in WHY we have that problem. So I was encouraged by a therapist to not only write down my diet, but maybe my story in general. My life story. We need to get out what is bugging us. Mental preparation is just as important as physical preparation! I have to get down to why I am depressed and eating so much. It is not just that "I like food." It is way more than that. Yes I am a chef and yes I like food, but there are chefs out there that have a passion for what they do and they are not overweight. Why? Because they do not have the desire to keep eating when they are full! So now that I have admitted that I have a problem, I have decided to tackle my life history to get to the root of the problem!

I'm doing good. The only, problem is,my Vitamins make me really nauseous. I dread taking them each day. Other than that, recovery hasn't been bad

Dpb...

Have you tried Flinstones Gummy Vitamins??? Those taste pretty good and they seem to be mild on my stomach... My regular meds make me feel sick to my stomach no matter what I seem to do as I have to grind them up... I only have a month left to do that so I'm not going to complain... I'm glad you're doing well otherwise... I find almost as many differences in the way people have recovered as I do the things we have in common... I've found it so helpful here... I hope things continue to be positive for you...

Realize this is not a diet to be followed for a while then set aside permanent lifestyle change

I "think" the above by SKCUNINGHAM sums up alot of the other great comments

the sooner you/me/all realize this is a forever new life the better

as soon as you reach goal - you can't/must not rest on your laurels (msp)/or asssss :o ;)

continue to follow all the rules you've learned, for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
