Night Sweats NOT caused by Menapause or Perimenapause

Recommended Posts

I think my doctor is going to nominate me for Medical Freak of the decade.

I have been suffering from horrible night sweats for about 9 months now ... but they really started about a year ago. I'm talking about saturating my night gown and sheets several nights a week. Other nights, it may be mild or not at all.

So far, we've ruled out

  • Menapause and perimenapause with estrogen level testing (twice!)
  • Medication interactions
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Infection
  • HIV
  • Hodgkin's Disease
  • Leukemia

Sometimes when I wake up, I have that shaky feeling like you get when you haven't eaten in a while along with that sweat that just pours out from no where. Does anyone relate?

I'm starting to wonder if I may have hypogylcemia only at night. Sounds like it is uncommon, but it does exist. When I eat some Protein (especially cheese) at night, it seems like the sweats are better. Not every time, but many times. Just a hunch right now.

I have another follow-up appoint on Tuesday to discuss next steps since the Hodgkin's and Leukemia tests came back negative (NEVER SO GLAD TO GET NEWS AS I WAS ON THOSE - I was really scared!) And let me tell you ... drinking 60 oz of barium smoothie in 2 hours with a tiny tummy is no small feat!!!!

Well ... just wanted to throw it out there to see if anyone else had this issue. If so, it would really be helpful to hear so I can talk to my doctor more about my "theory".

Thanks for your help!

Hmmmm....interesting post. I too have been suffering from night sweats on and off for about a year or so now. I haven't brought it up to my PCP yet, but maybe I will now. I hope everything is fine with you!

If you think it might be hypoglycemia, get yourself a blood sugar tester and some test strips and test your blood sugar when it happens. If your blood sugar is below 60 then have a teaspoon of Peanut Butter, or some cottage cheese or something that has some carbs and Protein in it. Wait about 20 to 30 minutes after eating it and test your blood sugar again to make sure it came back up. Track those numbers and take them with you to your doctor's appointments as that will help your doctors figure it out.

I have suffered from night sweats, except mine have been for treats. One leading cause is sleep apnea. Mine Are a result of polycystic ovarian syndrome. My hormones are constantly fluctuating. For the time being try the cool pajamas designed for us night sweaters.

Hey Mini,

I get those pesky night sweats too ... vile aren;t they. I get them day time too but not so bad. I had my bloods done and I am peri menopausal... I was just 39 when they started, about 10mths ago.

If they've tested your bloods I am at a loss... but pleased that you are medically 'ok'! Could be the blood sugar thing as others have suggested. My dad has type 2 diabetes and when his blood sugar is low he sweats - might be simialar... not saying that you are diabetic but the low blood sugar thing... God, does that even make sense???

Hope you find an answer soon... hugs from across the pond x

Mini - I had nite sweats like you - but mine were all related to my hormone levels - first after my hysterectomy in my early 30's and again when I went through the change. I hope they get it resolved soon - they are MISERABLE. Hang in there.!

I had them too for a bit, and like someone above said, mine were because of sleep apnea. Have you been tested for that? With apnea, you stop breathing repeatedly and it freaks the body out and raises the adrenaline levels. This causes night sweats in some people, including me. Might be something to look into.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
