I am just 13 months out from having my VSG. I love my sleeve first off. I have lost to day 125 lbs and feeling great. problems along the way were all my fault. I had knee surgery because I hurt my knee 10 years ago and let it go and the weight started to come off and it was time for knee surgery. Than I had my gallbladder out which should have come out 23 year ago. Than I had elbow surgery, Mouth surgery, my last surgery I just had 7 days ago was a hysterectomy all my surgery went great. I was once a size 32 now I am size 10 to 12 depends on the jeans. I can wear Large or medium tops now I was in a 4X.

I exercise 7 days a week twice a day in the am I go to the gym and at night I go on my 12 mile bike ride. I love my surgeon who told me about his surgery I wanted the band but he told me about the VSG and said I would do great with it and feel better and be happier with my choice he was right. I had a CT scan done yesterday to see if I have a hernia. My next surgery will be my tummy tuck and than i will get the hernia fixed than if I have one. I did this weight lost surgery for me I took a year off of being a mom 24 7 to not being home much. My children are 23,21,19,17 so they did not need me around all the time. My husband did not want me to have this surgery he was scared something would happen to me. We did fight on and off when I was 5 months out from surgery I was changing and he was not and we did not get along to well than. He told me he wished I did not get this surgery because he missed me sitting in bed with him my face in the computer and his watching tv we did nothing and I wanted more I wanted to go go go and he just wanted the old way. He missed his eating partner because we shared our food and dessert all the time.

But because I changed my eating and do not eat very much he hated that. But now he looks at me and tells me every day that i am just beautiful and I have always been but he loves the new me because I am happy all the time and full of energy. My children tell me they are happy I changed and that i am happy all the time and that makes for a happy house hold. Nothing but better has come from having this surgery and i am loving life and LOVE MY SLEEVE. I am not at goal yet my goal is 145 but I am still loosing and love it. You all have a great day. I would show you a picture but do not know how on here sorry.

Weight before surgery was 290 lbs

weight this am 165 lbs

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
