Why is the 1st month so hard?

Recommended Posts

I have a question. I am about 5 weeks out and I feel like hell. I am trying to go back to work. Every morning I am light headed and sick. I eat . I even try Protein shakes that I will throw up. I keep having to get my blood pressure medicine lowered. The actual point of the surgery. However, every time it changes I have problems again. My thyroid meds had to be changed because I am now getting to much. Did anyone else ever feel like this and will this get better? I have lost 30 lbs since my surgery 7/13/11. I just had my blood work drawn again today. I am a little frustrated.

Hi,

You may find some answers after they check your blood levels too. I also had to have my meds adjusted like you. And after awhile they took me off most of them. Do you like your Protein Drink that you are drinking? I have a few that I really like, and I just had to sip them instead of trying to drink them all at one time. I found out my potassium was really low and that was part of my problem too. It does get better in time. Have you tried to have part of a soft boiled egg in the morning--that used to help me. Sometimes a spoon of Peanut Butter also helped. And always a sugar free all natural Popsicles worked magic for me.

Keep me posted.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Thanks Suzanne! I am officially 9 days out from surgery and am just starting to get tired of Clear Liquids. The only way I can get down my Isopure is mixing it 50/50 with Water. I have my post op appt with my surgeon next Monday and then I will move to full liquids. I can't wait!! I am still so NOT hungry and I can only hope that I can swallow the full Protein Shakes with grace. Thank you for posting your regimen...it does give hope that one day, we will be behind all the fear of eating because of our recent surgeries.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
