I am also at a stand still. I was supposed to get my 3rd fill last month but my surgeon had an emergency and had to cancel. I go in on the 18th. The last week or two I've felt like I don't even have a fill. I could eat forever if I didn't stop myself. I sure hope this fill will help jump start me. I was banded in March.

HI

I too am at a standstill. I had a fill 8 weeks ago and when I went in 4 weeks ago, I did not want one. I have been PBing every day and cannot eat solid food. Yet, I am not losing. 4 lbs. in eight weeks. Yikes! I am eating mushies and am afraid to eat in front or with anyone just in case I spit up. I have to go for an x-ray next week to see if my band is too tight.

I would have thought I would have lost 10 more lbs. since I am not losing, but nooo...

Maybe you need to study what you are able to consume. You would be surprised how the calories add up in the smallest amount of the wrong food or liquids.

This may not be what you want to hear - but then again, it may be just what you need to hear. If you're not already doing it, it's time to start tracking your calories. There's a free and easy way to do it - www.FitDay.com. I know everyone was banded so they wouldn't have to diet, but if you're not losing, and you're eating a lot of soft food because of PBs, you need to know exactly how many calories you're taking in.

I'm very careful about choosing foods wisely because I know I'm journalling it. I know if there's a choice between a banana and a plum or two, I go with the plums. I know this because I log my food and I see exactly how many calories are in the banana. The plums are the better deal. I do the same with all my food choices now. I don't eat Cereal for Breakfast anymore. I get better Protein (!) and fewer calories with two fried eggs and 4 strips of Hormel pre-cooked bacon.

Because I'm keeping track of everything that goes in my mouth I also have a better track record of getting in my Water every day. Drinking enough Water every day makes a huge difference in my weight loss. When I don't drink the water, I don't lose.

Don't underestimate the value of food journalling. Doing it with FitDay.com just makes it much much easier. The free online version works OK but if you find that you want to keep journalling, I recommend the $20 downloadable version. It keeps track of portions and has lots of different functions and reports available. Best $20 I ever spent on a diet. I wish I'd done it before being banded. - I guess I should mention that they don't pay me to endorse their product! lol I just think it's a GREAT tool. Kinda like my band.

Good luck.

Excellent advice from DonnaB!

Another point I'd like to toss into the ring is that your body often needs time to adjust. I think it just depends on each person. I am one who is like that...I'd lose a bunch, then sit there for a while, then actually gain maybe 3 pounds back, then drop a bunch, then sit there, etc. It's a pattern I see in myself. Track your pattern, see what it shows. Tracking your food is part of that. Fitday is a great place to do that.

Good luck in your journey!

Cindy

Hi Philli!!

As all the others have said, counting calories will give you a good idea of exactly what you are eating/drinking.

As for the Constipation issue, Benefiber (You are an Aussie, right? You can get it cheap at Woolworths and Priceline) was a good pal of mine early on. Usually a bit of extra Fiber, and plenty of Water will help.

Hiya Phili,

I haven't spoken to you for a while. Sorry to hear you are at a stand still. I hear it is very common. One of the girls I met here in Brisbane stayed at the same weight for 3 months in the beginning. I've been a bit slow myself. I even put on 4 kgs a couple of weeks ago. Ive since had a fill and I'm back on track or rather where was a month ago. I know a lot of girls have advised you to count callories and they are probably right but that sounds all too much like a diet to me and that's what got me into this mess. Hope you are well and keep in touch.

Warm regards,

Fleur

Hi Phili,

I was banded in April and still havent lost anything. I am watching what I am eating, etc and exercising but no weight loss. Very frastrasting. But on the positive, I have lost cms and I am pleased with that as I feel I need some proof to what is happening. I didnt even any weight on the two weeks Optifast. The week prior to starting optifast I was in hospital on nil by mouth and didnt loss weight then either. I managed to not put on weight for 12yrs, I can do this without the band, now I just want to see some come off.

Dont worry if you are at a stand still, it will happen. Hopefully it will kick in soon for both of us

Regards

Lisa

:help:

Hi,

Has anyone had their portal flipped? I had my surgery done on August 2, went in today for my 2nd band fill and my band has flipped.

My surgeon has never had this happen so he is unsure as to why it has happened. :D

It has made me so incredibly miserable,:cry I feel doomed to be fat all my life. I dont want to live in this struggle, if anyone knows of a portal flipping, please let me know.

Rania :think

Hi Rania,

It sounds like your port has flipped. While it is a pain to have your port flip, it is apparently not a big deal to have it flipped back (either a day surgery, or a in office job)

I have not had it happen myself. but there are lots of stories of flipped ports on the board, and most of them have a great outcome.

Rania :phanvan Thank you for your response, it has made it a little better, my biggest fear is that I am doomed to obesity (if this surgery doesnt work). Good to hear we can have it fixed. Thanks again. :clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
