Belly Dancers Help!

Recommended Posts

I went to my first Belly Dance class last night since I have been sleeved. Granted it was cabaret and I have done mostly ATS. I felt like a complete idiot. I could not find my balance! Will it be like this as long as I am losing weight rapidly? Besides that... I have found that my stamina is gone. I was sweating and panting wh en I shouldn't have been. How long do these things last?

Just jump back in, it will take a little while to get back in the swing of things.. I took about 4 classes to get up to speed, then I started getting BETTER than before surgery! My balance is sooo much better than before.... taking the weight off really gives the old knees and ankles a chance to work right. You have been off duty for a while now, and it might show up as loss of strength and balance, but the dancing will help you form your new body. Do not be discouraged! Things will look up soon! ONE TWO THREE Shimmy!

I don't know what ATS is and I can't comment on the balance issue, but I think the fact that you are taking belly dancing totally ROCKS!!!!! You go girl!!! :-)

The balance issues will improve. You have different proportions now and your inner ear has to adjust. Its kinda like in puberty when you get taller and then you get clumsy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
