Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I am a little over a year out and have gained about 7 pounds over the summer months. I have lost the focus I had at the beginning. You have to use your tools and fight old habits every day. September is a good time to re focus and get it back. Using Forums, websites, Facebook has worked well for me to stay thinking about what I need to do and to stay focused. Weight loss is a battle before, during and after surgery but I feel great and I have lost 70 pounds so it is worth the battle.

Hi! I had my surgery about a year and a half ago, and like you, I have lost focus. Today I have decided to try the 5 day pouch reset. I need to do it. I have definitely fallen back into old habits. I think because I can only tolerate small amounts, my brain thinks it's ok to eat anything. Soooo, back to Protein shakes for a little bit. I have lost 80 lbs and I'm thrilled, but I have another 30 to go and it's been a very long stall this time. Trying to stay positive. Reading everyone's experiences and struggle are motivating me to get back on track!

Put the scale away for now. It's very common to gain weight after surgery as you are swollen and pumped with fluids. Just stick with your plan.

Tsaverco how is your skin after your weight loss? 70 lbs should be OK but depends how fast you lost the weight. Does any GS here need skin surgery?

My skin is pretty good. Of course it is not perfect but I didn't expect it would be. My age also plays into this I am sure. But Let's just say I look better in clothes.

I actually joined Weight Watchers so I could have someone weigh me in every week! I seemed to do just fine when I was going in regularly to see my NUT but once they switched me to only going in every 6 months I started to struggle. When I finally do get to my goal weight I will be able to still go to Weight Watchers every week for weigh in and not have to pay anymore. Even if I did have to pay each week I think it would be worth it for me just to keep my weight in check.

Well this is hard for me to admit BUT I never got to goal went from 292 down to 238 then I fell off the wagon about 6 months after surgery. I have regained 32 lbs back over 2 years and I ate whatever I wanted and I didn't follow a single rule. I am now back to reading the boards and I am starting to track my food and exercise and get back on track.

BrandNew- Welcome back! WE are all in this together. Surgery is not an end-all in itself. But having everyone here to cheer each other on and to encourage each other to be what we were meant to be is what will get us there! Be proud that you are back.

Thank you! I realize that this journey is mine and no two journey's are the same. I have made great accomplishments in other areas in my life and I am ready to get back on track now. I already feel so much better physically and it's only been a few days.

Was had my sleeve in 2012 and I have gained 30 lbs back.

I am curious to those who are 2+ years sleeved, how much can you eat at a given meal? Is it still ~8 oz total? Thanks!

For me it depends what I am eating and if I follow the rules.

If I follow the rules of no drinking with food and 30 mins before and after I can eat about a half of homemade hamburger without bread. If I don't follow rules for a bit I can eat a 4' sub with bread.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
