Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

the important thing to remember is that a healthy woman of normal weight can have their weight fluctuate up to 9 lbs in a day just from Water retention. Even at a normal weight, because i have a thyroid problem, I gained 23 lbs in water weight starting my period. It was insane. I was a normal weight then too. I imagine when you're overweight/obese, you can probably retain even more on a day to day basis.

Hi everyone! I have never posted on this board but have followed for a long time. I am 3 years out on the 12th of January and have not had any regain. I am 5'7 and weigh about 132 pounds. I still have a lot of restriction and am limited to no more than 3 ounces of solid Protein and a few bites of veggies and/or starch. I still focus my diet around lean cuts of protein (chicken, beef, pork, fish), produce, eggs and dairy. I also still start most days with a Protein Shake. I exercise about 4 times a week (cardio and weight lifting). I eat about 1400 to 1500 calories a day and have treats occasionally. I am very conscious about what I eat because I've seen too many people regain from losing focus. After 2 years or so, I believe it's much easier to gain if you're not caeful. It is definitely possible to gain weight but it's also very possible to keep it off. It just takes determination.

In answer to sleeve 4 me: Nom I don't take any special meds now or drink any alcohol (never have), I do, however, drink with meals. Having been trying to stop that again and I think it does make a difference. Have lost 3-4 lbs in last week and half from no junk. Doing a "Daniel Fast" right now with my church so my diet includes more carbs but they are GOOD carbs (whole grain etc) and beginning the year by this plus the elimination of junk food has caused me to start losing. Going to try to follow more closely original guidelines and lose the pounds gained plus want to try to get off another 5-10 (so I will have a few to play with!). I'll let you all know how it goes. I have found that it does make a huge difference WHAT I eat and still have good restriction. I can eat little dense Protein and things like Beans fill me up very quickly. Gonna be HEALTHY! Love having all of you as sounding boards!

Hmmmmm interesting. How much do you drink with your meals? 8 ounces or more? or just sips??? We are starting the 21 Daniel Fast on Sunday, but I'm not sure if I can do it, since I don't want to lose any more weight...so I was planning on doing another type of fast.

You should be able to get all your Protein in if you use gluten, TVP and you can get pea or hemp or soy Protein Drinks.< /p>

Add some flax seed oil or flax seed meal to improve your amino acids. Kale is also high in protein and Omega 3s.

I noticed that in the last couple of days I have been fluctuating about 2 to 3 lbs. I can't seem to get out of this stall. Yuck..... here we go again! I am glad to see that this is normal fluctuation. I am not going to panic just yet! Maybe tomorrow! ;)

I too have recently gained about 15 pounds. I went through a very emotionally troubled time between April and November last year with my kids and family. I turned to my old friend, salty, crunchy food. If you put junk in, you will gain. I knew what I was doing, but just couldn't stop myself.

But, I am determined not to gain another pound, so I am back to tracking everything I put in my mouth and eating very healthy again. No more feeling sorry for myself, new year, new me! The other thing contributing to my gain is my inability to exercise right now. Previously, I could eat whatever I wanted, and still lose so long as I stuck to my regular exercise program. Unfortunately, I have been going through major back problems and have pretty much been incapacitated since about August. I will be having surgery on my spine in the next couple of weeks. I will know the exact date after I meet with my surgeon on Friday. Normally, I am not excited about surgery, but I am for this, as I can hardly stand living with the pain anymore, and I just want to get back to living life and losing the rest of my weight.

Heya Susan, you'll be fine! :) Good for you on getting back on track. I know I've slacked a little bit during the Holidays but they're over now. Time to get back to mostly healthy foods.

I agree too that I notice the differences when I'm working and out and when I'm not. My scale will fluctuate a lot when I'm not, having gone through several surgeries myself and not being able to do them continuously. When I do though my scale will cooperate.

Well wishes to you with your upcoming back surgery!! (((hugs)))

I'm just past three weeks but have been having a weird up-and-down where my scale fluctuates 6-7 pounds in a single day. I'm not taking in that much in liquids (though I wish I were getting more than I am!), so I don't really understand it. It's not everyday, and I'm post-menopausal, so it's really odd. I've been checking my weight in the mornings just to keep an ongoing record and am not obsessing about it, but I wondered if anyone else is going through this kind of thing since this post seemed like the right place to ask.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
