Recommended Posts

so both the thyroid and parathyroid are fine. so no answers. Discovered I am anemic and the day of blood work back to 223. After seeing a specialist about my parathyroid on July 8 I decided to check my blood sugar

7/8 Weight 218.8

7/9 - 177 decided to re-evaluate everything going in my mouth

7/10 - 157 Weight 217.8

7/11 - 139 Weight 215.4

7/12 - 115 Weight 214.2

7/13 - 113 (mistake ate some craisans) Weight 213.8

7/14 - 128 Weight 213.6

I am cutting out artificial sweeteners which also means no more coffee, plus I began drinking the juice from one lemon daily mixed in Water. These by no means are secrets or fads, just doing what I need to do for me to try and figure out what is going on with my body. I have also made a point to eat Protein first, I carry pouches of tuna with me and when I am hungry that is my go to snack.< /p>

I have gained 40 pounds since I was sleeved 2 1/2 years ago. Part of it is my own fault and part of it is new cardiac medication that I was put on. Fortunately my insurance considers that a complication of my sleeve and has approved me for gastric bypass which I am scheduled for next Wednesday, July 29 at Cleveland clinic Florida

At about seven or eight weeks I had a stall. I had lost 40 lbs but would gain a pound then lose a pound and gain two and lose one. I almost started freaking out because the first 40 seemed to just drop off. Just finished 10 weeks post surgery and I am on the downward spiral again. What I did was start journaling my food in My Fitness Pal and that has really helped. Now, I've lost the two or three I gained and I am down two more pounds. From what I gather, most people have a stall or a pound or two gain in the process but if you just keep sticking to the right plan, you will start losing again.

That is the typical time of most people's first stall as the body is just catching up

I had my surgery on March 11, 2015. I have lost 61 pounds to date, but I stopped losing for several days at the 3-4 week stage. After resuming my weight loss, over the past few days I have actually put on 2 pounds. I am a little nervous, so I am getting back to basics and starting to weigh my Protein to see if I can jump-start the process again.

The secret is reallllllly to have nothing but healthy food in the house. At the restaurant, an entrée is enough. At friends, tell them to put a maximum of one cup of food in a smaller plate ( that includes your Proteins, veggies and whatever they have with those)

I am really surprised at the amount of people gaining weight and lots of it too! I'm almost 7 years postop and still have maintained my weight loss. I started out at 240 and now weigh about 137/138. I still have a ton of restriction. What are you people eating? Are you just eating crap all the time or what. I'm lucky to get 1500 calories a day!

Laurak712 u seem to be the exception that proves the rule. I wonder if people who started at a lower weight have a better chance of keeping it off. I wonder if younger people have a better chance. Ir maybe a combination of the two.

1500 calories a day causes me to gain. I MUST limit my intake to 1100-1200 AND workout 4-5x a week or I gain. Consider yourself very lucky. It doesn't work like that for all of us. I am 5'6" and also started at 240... my lowest weight was 172 and I'm struggling now in the 190s.

I also think LauraK is an exception... Please don't assume if we are struggling we're eating "crap"... 1500 calories a day causes me to gain. Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
