Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

i totally agree with the post about drinking a Protein Shake for breakfast! If I eat actual food for Breakfast in hungry all day, however if I start my day with a shake my hunger is more even through out the day and I only get hungry every four hours or so.

I had my sleeve yesterday. After reading all of these responses I called my daughter and had her take my scale to her house. I'm not even going to focus on weight. I'm going to focus on healing and making it through the early stage. I will see my PCP at about three or four weeks out for s check up. I will find out then how I have done with the scale

Hi everybody. I'm 6 1/2 years out now and still doing just fine. food just isn't my focus anymore and I do not follow a traditional diet. I've been eating a whole food low fat plant based diet for a year and a half now. So no meat dairy or eggs. I feel better than ever and have my doctors blessing. My labs are great in fact better than ever. Good luck everyone. It's totally possible to keep off every pound. I've never gained anything. Just normal daily fluctuations depending on salt/water intake. But my size stays perfectly stable. I do exercise plenty though but I've done that all my life.

I had my surgery on 12/16/13 lost 91 pounds SW 293 then at 9 months after surgery I stopped loosing and have been in a yo yo mode since 8/14 I will gain up to 20, then loose it but never getting below my 202 (lowest weight but not goal). I have a Protein shake for breakfast, 2.6 OZ tuna snack mid morning, lettuce with humas for lunch, lettuce with dressing for supper. I had complications with my surgery, and still feel the effects, vomiting daily has become the norm. I moved far away from my surgeon, so I am going to a local doctor for the first time since surgery tomorrow to have my thyroid checked because my hair dresser thinks it may be bad as my hair is awful despite taking all of the supplements that I take.

Good luck with that, let us know how it goes...

I reached my surgiversary yesterday (june17). I wish I could say that I am a 100% success story, but that would not be an accurate description. Like many of us that walk this journey there are struggles along the way. I have not reached my goal. At one time I was 15 pounds from that 'desired' goal weight we all set for ourselves. 12 months into this I am 21 pounds from goal! Yup, up 7 pounds from my low weight so far. Discouraging for sure! I have to admit my head hunger and poor eating habits were not cured by the surgery. Saying that the WLS is a tool and not a cure is sooooo true. I am not giving up! I will get there. I can attest to how much better I feel and how much I enjoy my new active lifestyle. ????. Just gotta get around this snacking habit and carb cravings!!!! ????????

You are reading the wrong posts here. We are all way past the first year. Our gains mean something different from yours.

Your gain is just an anomaly stemming from the body adjusting after surgery. You didnt gain anything really. Hang in there. Stick with sleevers who share your surgery date. You will find similar no worry experiences. U dont get yo panic til waaaaay later.

Your weight may fluxuate throughout your weight loss honeymoon. Keep in mind that there may well be swelling, Water weight, and overall body confusion about what just happened. Use your logic.. if your eating 500 cals a day, your not gaining "fat" weight. At three weeks, or there about , there is something called the 3 week stall... many people just stop losing for around 3 weeks, for me it was closer to 5. Just breath, it will pass, stay on track and the rest will take care of itself. This topic is addressing what happens after the honeymoon is over. Statisticly, most weight is re-gained after 3 years out (but can be earlier...) and this post addresses that phase of the "journey".

Hi iI had my surgery 12/12/12 I haven't gained any weight until recently I believe it is all due to the all the stress that I'm going through right now both of my daughter are in the hospital and I've been stress eating and gained 20lbs!!! This scares me I do not want to put this weight back on. How do I get myself back on track?

Jlburger...wow talk about stress. I know u want to be there and healthy for your girls when hospitalization is finished. Just noticing that i are a bit out of control helps. Maybe it can help u realize that you need to make the right choices when overindulging...like lite cheese sticks and veggies. Or nuts with 60% dark chocolate bits...so at least you won't be adding insult to injury. Controlling yourself for the girls will send positive messages about future to them. What do u think?

I must say I thought this thread was for those further out, at least 1 year, for me it is hard to relate back to those that just had surgery as the body is going thru many changes.

Can someone share a link with me to a different group on this board for people out for over a year?

This thread is for those longer out from their surgery. I'm not sure why the newbies keep coming in here and posting about weight gain right after their surgeries. When I catch these posts, I try to post something nice to guide them to other threads but they still keep coming in here.

You will get better information from other threads for people who just had their surgeries. This thread is for those a year or more out from surgery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
