Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

have you heard of the faux bypass? they hypnotize the person to believe they have had the surgery. apparently for people who are good subjects, they can lose as much or more weight as someone who has had the actual surgery!

Yes I tried it before I finally settled on surgery LOL needless to say it didnt work :D

Thanx feedyoureye, the acid makes sense as I had to stop my Proton Pump Inhibitor at two months as it was causing colitis.... might look into trying zantac or similar...

Hi Everyone :-)

Today is my 4 year anniversary. I was the one that originally asked the question about weight gain after surgery. Well I'm here to tell you that you can definitely GAIN WEIGHT BACK and not just a few pounds.

Although I'm very content and blessed to be wearing a size 8 today I was actually wearing some size 4's years ago. And was a perfect size 6 for over 3 years.

My goal weight was to reach 150 lbs. (a normal BMI weight for me). I got as low as 144 lbs. Today 4 years out I weigh 165 lbs. I have reached as high as 170 lbs. during my period.

The sleeve is a PHENOMENAL tool and 4 years out I STILL have amazing restriction. The weight gain is from not eating properly, PERIOD. For the MOST part I'm still making pretty good choices, but obviously there are choices that haven't been all that great to gain all this weight back.

I know age has something to do with it as well. I am 46 going on 47 and lots of changes going on lol. BUT NO EXCUSES for sure.

Again I'm content and watching my weight pretty closely now to make sure I don't gain any more weight and would love to be back to 150-155 lbs. I know it's possible for sure.

I'm so thankful for my sleevie.

I am now 5 1/2 years out and still at my original goal of 135 at 5'7. I've gone through menopause in the last 2 years and no change in weight. I have exercised religiously for many many years now and watch what I eat like a hawk. That's truly what it takes. So in January I'll be 6 years out and no doubt still rocking my size 4 jeans!

You are 100% Laura!!! There's just no easy way around it. It's an awesome tool and you have seemed to master it. Congrats!!!!

Listen to Laura people!!!! If you don't want to gain, STAY ON THE PLAN!!!

I hope to report back one year from now back on track and back at my normal BMI range.

It's very hard to eat tiny portions for the rest of our lives. I am one of the lucky ones that don't experience much hunger.

The 5:2 works well for me because once I get the carbs out of my system, I don't feel hungry so it's pretty easy to do the really low calorie days.

I have to weigh daily. It's the only thing that will definitely keep my accountable. Today over 5 years out, I am 2 lbs up from my goal of 135.

The biggest piece of advice I can give anyone is never take this surgery for granted.

If you drink your calories with things like sweet tea ( I have a friend who has gained most of her weight back drinking that stuff) flavored coffees, etc, it's easy to drink a lot of extra calories. Plan your meals and Snacks and don't snack between meals or in the evenings. That is the key to keeping it off.

My weight see-saws all over the place. I never seem to gain more than 3 pounds from my lowest before dropping below that again on my downward direction...(so far) I weight daily...and am at 8 months.

How long have you been stalled? How much more do you want to lose?

I definitely can eat a full restaurant meal and feel hungry again an hour or two later. I do spare carbs and eat Protein first. Do not drink during or closely after eating. No liquid with calories. Crave 'fudge' 40 cal ice pops. Try to snack on string cheese and nuts. ALWAYS HUNGRY thats how I was b4 the sleeve. I weighed 428 and am now at 192-95. Lowest was 188 in july. Yes i work out religiously and walk the doggie. I know the struggle is constant but I did NOT expect to be thinking abt food every minute. Its boring!

I agree with you. I saw in a thread the surgery referred to as a medically induced eating disorder. While I have absolutely no regrets I have began to see it the same way. I am constantly thinking about what and when I will eat and if I am eating to much. It is very overwhelming.

I'm brand new to this group, and this is one of the very reasons I joined. I have been "stuck" since March or April. My weight will fluctuate from 1-3 pounds in a week....usually going up. This week I gained 2.6 pounds and I just don't understand why. Ok, I haven't been the most conscious about my diet (I LOVE my Mickey D's mochas....with nonfat milk) and I haven't exercised since I had a medical issue and subsequent surgery (nothing bariatric-related). Any ideas on how I can "jumpstart" my weight loss? I need to lose about 37 more pounds. Thank you!!

Journal! Track everything you put in your mouth. Identify Protein, carb, sugar intake. It may shock you. Be accountable for everything you eat and stay on track with your calorie limits. Not every one has to do this and continue to lose weight, but for some of us, that is the key to success. When I go into a stall I find going back to my food journal quickly identifies why I am not losing. If you are gaining this should be your first step to getting back on track. My fitness pal is a great tool for this journaling process.

No, I never got a limit from my NUT or PCP, but I know through trial and error what my limit should be personally. I stay about 800 per day. Go over that and I stall or even gain a pound or two. So when I journal I can track all of that.

Agreed, 800 a day, everyday only happens in the first year or two. I find I maintain my weight fairly well at around 1300 cals a day and I workout 5 days a week. I have to drop to 900-1000 to lose anything significant. I'm praying that I can keep this weight off long term.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
