I am interested in your reply as I know my surgeon refused to sleeve anyone who smoked- he made it a non- negociable pre requirement. Yours didn't? How about others?

I quit before surgery for about 7 months, my doc wouldn't even make an appointment if I wasn't smoke free for 90 days, then I went back because of stress etc. They never did another test to determine if I was smoking again when it came time for surgery. After surgery, I tried quitting again and that is when I gained the 8 lbs.

Now that I am at 2 1/2 years post op, I can say that it's getting harder to not gain . I can easily gain 5 lbs in a couple of days of socializing and if I am not very careful and take it right off, I can easily see how it would get out of hand.

I am really lucky that I do love exercising and don't mind making it a priority in my life.

Hi, I was sleeved in Israel in August 2009 and lost 49 kilos or 107.80lbs (7 stone 7 pounds) in the first year, the first 5 stone fell off me, then I had to diet like crazy to get the other 2 and a half stone off but now I'm just putting on weight rapidly. The dietician at the time did tell me strictly, never ever ever eat more than half a cup of food, ever! but did I listen, no! typical rebellious me, I stuffed and have now stretched my stomach and can eat huge portions again, and i'm eating little and very often, can't diet, can't seem to go back to small portions, complete mess, and now what do I do? Thinking of doing hypnotic banding, anyone tried it? I saw an article in the paper today a women lost loads of weight doing it, but that could just be advertising, don't want to waste money if it doesn't work.. I continually crave carbs, bad food, as before the op, and if I do get through one whole day of eating healthily I ruin it by the next afternoon. Now considering going back to do a revision op, but scared of the outcome, bursting the stomache etc....

Any advise?

Emma

Personally I don't think anything really more is needed. You STILL have your sleeve, and I don't believe it was stretched out more than it really ever could be. Have you tried the yogurt volume test? You pack your sleeve with as much yogurt as you can as quickly as you can and judge exactly how much volume your sleeve can really hold that way. I'm thinking it's not as big as you might believe.

Could it be you are grazing too? You fill your sleeve then wait an hour or a little longer and fill it again? That is something we always have to look out for because doing this you will eat far more calories in the day than you are burning, of course leading to weight gain. Also, slider foods being high in fat and bad carbohydrates will lead a sleever to gain weight. The unfortunate things about these "cheats" are that no weight loss surgery will ever stop this. Only our brains will.

Likely you need to just start over. Perhaps with your very next meal promise to do the right thing, pick healthy Snacks and wait at least 3 hours before each time you eat. The first few days will be tough, but once you get those cravings out of your system you should be good to go. Watch your volumes too.. definitely don't go over 3 quarter cups at any one time.

Blessings and I hope you can get back on track quickly. For me, winter (Holidays) has always been the toughest time of year for me. I cannot walk or do any activities outside for it's too cold and I tend to eat foods that aren't the best for me.

:) We are all in this together!

Best of luck with that... do you track your calories? How much have you gained back in how much time? Thanks for sharing... it will help us all.

I'm just barely nine months out and have yet to gain anything. Of course I have the 1-4 pound fluctuation around AF, but none of it ever sticks.

I'm so happy to see that 1-5 lbs. (so far) is what seems to be weight gained for a sleeve patient. I am 14 months out and I'm still in that category as well. After Thanksgiving I lost any weight ever gained and actually dropped an additional .4 and dropped to 144.3, so far, so good...yayyyy! Thank you sleevie!

This morning I was one pound over my lowest weight. That is really a miracle! I even made a thanksgiving dinner for us and have been eating little plates of leftovers at mealtime. Gotta have a tofurky and cranberry sandwich or two this time of year! This is living! I will run out of the left overs tomorrow, and hop back on plan 100%. Actually, I AM on plan. I am craving veggies! So cool. Thanks sleeve!

Remember too, my weight gain was due solely from my Plastic Surgeries. I've actually LOST weight since then. I was just "keeping it real" is all. ;o) Really I've only gained at most 4 Lbs due to TOM. Never more than that and it always drops right back off with a few friends.

I try to count calories and at the beginning I was eating around 500-700 per day. Now I'm trying hard to stick to 1200 per day but finding it hard, and keep binging, I managed to eat over 20 minutes yesterday 8 large chocolate biscuits and after work 2 bags of crisps one after the other and it doesn't effect my sleeve in any way. :( I will try the yoghurt test but I was told by the surgeon that you can bulge your sleeve which I think is what has happened with me. So all you sleevers beware! don't do it! Not after what we've put ourselves through :((((

Who did your sleeve? I would never be able to eat all that in an hour much less 20 minutes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
