It seems as if, since I am so close to getting approved and getting my date, I have been trying to eat every thing in sight!! I have been eating all kinds of sweets and I am not even a real sweet eater. Its like since I know I wont be able to eat it soon, I am trying to eat all I can now. I think in the last week I have gained at least 5 pounds (at least I feel like I have). I dont want to weigh and confirm my thoughts. I feel like a drug addict that has committed to go into rehab but wants to get as high as possible before going.....smh....angry.gif

i did the same thing at first when i was just thinking about the surgery. i figured i would get it out of the system while i could so that i wouldnt feel bad for missing food. it didnt really do anything for me but pack on the pounds. i still miss the food, but i have been really good at making really good choices now. i have my surgery tomarrow, and i cant wait now.

I did the same thing...ate all the fried foods and sugary foods I could get my teeth into...since I knew that's what I wouldn't be able to eat after surgery. Don't worry, after surgery you won't crave them anyway...that's the beauty of it!

I was like that too and gained weight back before my surgery. I still crave certain foods, but the cravings are short lived and are in head. Once you have surgery, you'll do fine!

A few things to keep in mind are:

a) Doing this will only sabotage any weight you might have already lost pre-op and set you back further to your ultimate goal.

b ) You WILL be able to eat anything you want post op, just less of it. You shouldn't try to during weight loss mode, but once that's complete you will get to enjoy all your favorites again.

c) You WILL have cravings for all your foods again in time. Squashing these cravings before going into surgery is a good idea. Carb cravings can get overwhelming, so by not eating them as much or simply sticking to good healthy carbs, you will keep these cravings under control.

d) Enjoy yourself for a little while, but my best suggestion is to really focus as much as you can for at least the few weeks leading into surgery. Not only will you lose a few pounds, but you will also ensure going in as healthy as you can. Help the Surgeon to help YOU!!

Best of luck in the leading days! This journey is NOT easy at all... but the rewards of doing right by yourself will far outweigh the sacrifices you will make right now and during weight loss mode.

I have been trying to eat like I already have the sleeve as Im getting closer. I figure if I can get used to it now I will be all the more successful.

I have felt some anxiety starting with just researching WLS. When I feel anxiety, I tend to eat a bit more. I felt like I was gaining a ton of weight over several months, but when I finally got brave and weighed, it wasn't THAT bad. I have now started tracking what I am eating and just trying to be "sensible". For me, the tracking helps me have that feeling of being in control.

BTW, I tried both fitnesspal and livestrong.com So far, I prefer the livestrong.com tools for food tracking.

I am not a big believer in the "last supper". Heck, I have done all sorts of weight loss programs and the reality of it is that you will be able to eat again! The point with the surgery is that at first your food is very very restricted. Once you hit maintenance, you should be able to enjoy small, healthy portions of normal foods. The last supper idea makes you feel like you will never eat again and that just isn't the case.

The only 'last supper' type meal I had was a steak dinner 2 nights before surgery, because my meal plan doesn't allow red meat for 18 months. :)

I did some of that too. Then I went on a 2 week liquid diet & then toward the end I had my wife fix me" Crab stuffed Devil eggs". A recipe I saw in a Weight Loss book. I talked for 10 days how good that last meal was going to taste. My wife fixed 2 dozen of those little bastards! They were the most tasteless thing I had eaten in years! After eating 6 of them they went in the trash.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
