Today is my 6 month surgiversary it was easy to lose at first because I had no other choice. Couldn't eat and nothing tasted good at all. No hunger for about 3 months but now i get it a little (nothing like before)My taste buds are back and I can hold about a cup before I have to stop. I've been stalled for month as far as the # on the scale goes but I'm still losing inches. 6/21 I started a couch to 5k program and have stuck to it. The race is in 2 weeks and I'm really excited.I'm not fast but just finishing is going to feel so good. I've lost 70lbs and have about 30 to go.The real work is starting now. I've been hitting the carbs hard lately so I've gotta get back on track. My knees no longer throb at the end of the day and my energy level is way up so I'm trying to stay active to make up for the bad food choices. I thought I would die the first couple of months. I was hospitalized for dehydration and could barely get around. I hated it but now I'm so happy I did it. This site has helped a lot. Its nice to know you're not in it alone. When you see that others are going through the same thing it gives you a sense of normalcy. For me the mental battle is the hardest so all the support shown here is a huge motivator!

Congratulations on your couch to 5k! Fantastic! And 70 pounds in 6 months is a great loss. I've always had a carb addiction. Sweets were not my issue. I worry that I will go back to that way of eating when I'm able. I'm going to have to keep a sound awareness around it. The good thing is that I love Protein so if I stick with protein first that will cut down on the carbs. I hope your 5k run goes great. Keep us posted!

You are a great inspiration for those of us who are waiting (me personally for a revision), 70lb in 6 months seems fantastic - and just think of how toned and beautiful your body will be with the running. Congratulations!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
