I remember that time too. The way I talked myself through it was to remind myself that I was doing that because I wanted my liver to be just right so that I didn't have any complications. I just kept thinking that I was avoiding complications and that helped. I promise the pre-op time will fly by. I am a little over 2 weeks out from surgery and I promise you.....it really DOES get better.

I had surgery with Dr. Nick on 2/22 of this year at Forest Park. I am coming up on my 6 month surgiversary soon. You will do great with Dr. Nick - I think he is the best there is.

To help with your hunger, drink at least 64 oz of Fluid a day - it really helps you feel full. Also, try to go ahead and get used to not drinking carbonated beverages, and I also decaffinated myself prior to surgery.

It is definately worth the work up front. I have not regretted my sleeve on minute.

I live in Dallas and I'm having surgery with Dr Nick on Sept 6th. It's sounds like we're experiencing the same apprehensiveness. I will be starting my pre-op next week. Dr Nicholson suggested I try the customized kits on bariatricadvantage.com to be sure there are no complications regarding the thickness of beverages and nutrition. I have a BMI of 34 and weigh 197lbs.

OMG, when I saw Dr. Nick I immediately thought of the crackpot doctor from the Simpsons! I'm SURE your Dr. Nick is a much better practitioner.

Well, at least he seems to be! ;) My doctor is Dr Nicholson at Baylor. He's the medical director of weightloss surgery at Baylor Plano and the new Forest Park Medical Center...a wonderful guy. Great reputation among other docs here in Dallas.

Congrats on the date!

I've been wondering if there are others here in Dallas. I've attended Dr. Nick's seminar last month and have a few pre-cert items, which will be accomplished next week. I hope to have a surgery date soon. Very excited.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
