Last Public Event as the old Me-Tmrw brings the new Me

Recommended Posts

Last night I went to a Kid Rock concert. It was my last public event as the old Me. Tomorrow is my surgery day and the birth of the new Me. I had a great time even though I couldn't drink. I think I am so excited about tomorrow that not drinking didn't even bother me. I usually only drink a couple of times a year anyway, but when I had bought those tickets it was for a rare night out with friends for a great time! I still had a great time anyway. We went out to eat and went to a bar downtown before the concert started. I had a grilled chicken sandwich, no fries. At the bar I had Water and was fine with that too.

We made our way to Comerica Park for the concert and when we got to the seats I sat down and felt squished. I was totally fine with the fact that is the last time I am going to have to squueze my butt into a little seat and try hard to keep my arms in so as not to bump the people next to me and spill over into their space. Luckily we stood up once the music started and that wasn't as much an issue. I of course couldn't help to think several times during the night, squeezing into the booth, the small bathroom stall and then the stadium seat, how much better I was going to FEEL after I use this tool to accompish what I have struggled with for my entire life.

Today I started my one day all liquid diet. It's 7 pm and I haven't really had a problem yet with hunger. I had some hunger pains this morning but after those passed, I have been okay. I thought it would be worse as I have had to prepare food for my kids.

I have to be at the hospital at 6 am. So early! Yet I probably won't sleep much tonight. I don't feel nervous or scared, I feel excited. I feel like the first time in my life I have a chance to actually have some real control over my body. I feel like this time when I make those changes and eat right and eat less, I will see some results and keep going. I'm the type of person that when something needs to get done, I like to just jump in and get it done. I don't want to wait until the last minute or do some now do some later. I like results and clean desk without piles of work that I have time to do but "will get to later". This has been some of my problem over the years with dieting. You lose some weight and you do the right things and then nothing. I worked out 5 days a week last year for 6 months and didn't even lose 20 pounds. That was with watching what I are as well. Then this year I had gotten a personal trainer and actually never lost a pound the whole time I was working with him. I got so tired of hearing muscle weighs more than fat that I wanted to wring anyone's neck who said that to me again.

So here's to tomorrow. A new beginning, a new chance, a whole new way to live.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
