Another TMI Question

I'm on day 5 and still having issues with diarrhea. However, I'm sure once I'm eating "real" food things will improve. For those of you veterans, once things were working normally how frequently did you have a BM? I have ulcerative colitis so I tend to be VERY aware of what my gastrointestinal tract is doing. :)

I never really had D, but I do notice that I am going to the bathroom less now... I am also eating a lot less, and only 2~ times a day now though.

I had surgery about six weeks ago and I'm battling constant diarrhea. Almost every time I use the bathroom I have some type of diarrhea or loose stool. This is something that I'm trying to get under control and figure out how to make more manageable. I'll be talking to my surgeon about it again at my appointment this week.

There were two days where I didn't have a BM and then I ended up in the hospital with a partial blockage in my colon. I had excruciating pain in my left ribs (where the band of my bra hits) radiating up into my left shoulder. I was very nauseous and throwing up bile prior to being admitted.

I really dislike constantly being bloated and having diarrhea, but I guess it's better than the alternative...

Best of luck to you in your healing.

At 16 weeks post-op, I "go" about every other day. I have Constipation issues which I never had prior to surgery. Sometimes I take a stool softener and have also taken Milk of Magnesia a couple of times at my Doctor's suggestion. I really focus on getting my Proteins in first which I think contributes to the problem. I find when I eat some vegetables or fruit with every meal that I have less of a problem.

And, I also had "D" for the first couple of weeks until I went on mushy foods.

I have had Constipation since my surgery at the end of July. I have only gone 2 times in 20 days! I don't really feel like I have to go but I'm taking Miralax every day. Haven't taken any Milk of magnesia... maybe I'll try that. Any suggestions for a newbie who is only on mushies?? Thanks in advance:)

I had D throughout the first month...the liquid and mushy stage...yes, it was very frustrating. Thank goodness we don't eat much. And now I'm almost always constipated. Miralax hasn't helped much, I think I'll try Milk of Magnesia next.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
