Walking and massage helped me a great deal. I also found that artificial sweetners made me gassy. You will get through this and let me tell you, it's pretty damn nice once you do.

Gas pain is the absolute worst! As others have stated movement helps considerly. I had Gas-X chewables with gas pain in my upper chest and shoulder. Drinking tea helps especially Decaf mint tea, it felt soothing to my insides. My surgery was on 7/22 and by the end of week 2 I felt much much better as I'm sure you will too.

Hi and Congrats on you slevee, I had mind April 28,2010 Keep you eye on the prize I am down 180 lbs, 10 more to go

I had the worst gas pain to the point i thought i was Having a heart attack, Just know that it took me about two months to get 100%, just be patience it will be worth it in the end.

Hi everyone. My name is Rebecca and I had my sleeve surgery on 08/09/11. I really had a meltdown today because the gas pain is killing me! I've tried Protein shakes but it increases my gas pain terribly so I went back to Isopure Protein Water and plain Water. I don't mind not having food but I'm so sick of not being able to sleep for a full 8 hours and having to sip every two seconds and then having gas pain on top of that! I had a pretty bad hernia that the doctor had to repair too and so I'm sure I'm pretty swollen, but, what I'm doing now doesn't feel like living much either. I'm so frustrated! I'm not in a great place right now. I know everyone heals differently, but, is there an average length of days until a person feels normal or will I have gas pain for the rest of my life?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much! I feel so defeated, but, knowing that I have others who are willing to share their stories and have experienced what I've experienced makes it sooo much better!

Thanks again!

The gas pains are the one thing that I will never forget, I know how you feel. I had to take gas-x ultra strength and my pain meds to get at least 5 hours of sleep. The pains wore off at about 4 weeks out. I hope that your's doesn't last that long. :( Walking didn't really help with my gas pains, but others have said it helped them.

I totally agree with SkinnyB, warm showers just made all the difference. If you can even sit on the floor of the shower and just let the Water rain down on you and try to just relax and let it wash over you it could really help you. I had some horrible emotional breakdowns the first few weeks and I had the what did i do to myself talk. I would get in the shower literally 4-5 times a day just to calm the heck down. You will get through these next few weeks and start to feel more like yourself again. You wont feel like your stomach is ruling your life. I PROMISE!

Thanks so much to everyone. Today is officially day 6 and, I must say, my gas pain has subsided enough where I can actually sit down for a spell without being in severe discomfort. This has been pure h**ll. I finally got in my 64 oz of Fluid and my Protein shakes... my doctor wanted me to start all this stuff like two days after surgery, but, the gas was just too unbearable. I guess better late than never.... sigh....

I hope the next couple of weeks go by fast so that I can feel normal again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
