Joseph's Lavash Bread and Pita Bread

Recommended Posts

Go to www.josephsbakery.com and check out the nutritional breakdown on their Flax/Oat Bran & Whole Wheat Lavash and Pita breads. Amazing!!!

The only bread I buy now is the really thin sandwich Buns which I use for toast for Breakfast. There is no way to eat a whole one of either the lavash or pitas. I use 1/4 of the lavash for a pizza crust and 1/2 of the pita for stuffing with tuna salad or sandwich fillings. You can cut them in any shape. For crispy things like chips, Pizza Crust, etc. place them on a baking sheet or stone, spray them with Water and crisp in 350 degree oven for about 10 min. You need to watch closely or they will overbake. One of the most fun things I did was cut them to fit a taco salad tortilla mold and bake them. What a great little taco salad.

Suggestions for 1/4 lavash:

Mix Peanut Butter and sugar free jelly together, spread on lavash and roll up. Delicious PB&J "sandwich"!!

Spread with condiment of choice (mayo, dijon mustard, etc) place deli meat of choice and slice of cheese on lavash, roll up, secure with toothpick and microwave for a few seconds to warm the cheese. YUM.. a deli sandwich!!

Roll up your favorite taco filling with oaxaca cheese crumbled in, place in baking dish seam side down, cover with favorite enchilada sauce, sprinkle with cheese and bake at 350 degrees till bubbly and lavash is crisp around exposed edges. Some of the best enchiladas I've had!!

Spread prepared pesto sauce thinly over 1/4 crisped lavash, top with mozzarella cheese and microwave just until the cheese starts to melt. OMG...this is like a mini pizza and a perfect accompaniment to meatballs in marinara sauce (3 mini meatballs makes this a meal).

I could go on and on, but let your imagination go wild. You will never feel deprived of marvelous tasting food again. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

Oops...forgot to say their website has locations where these are available, and if not in your area you can order online. I can get them at one of my local Walmarts, but when they told me they were no longer carrying it (which wasn't true) was when I discovered the website...K

I, too, am in LOVE with Joseph's Flax/bran pitas! I've been buying them from Walmart for a while now, and they do not taste "healthy". Only 60 calories each, only a few carbs, and you get 6 for $2.12 where I live. I haven't tried the lavash ones, but I use the pitas for panini and quesedillas. Yum!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
