ok so even though i'm able to have a full liquid diet ( thick liquids) such as purees ... because i'm 2 weeks out ... but i just don't want to eat ....i have no appetite, not hungry at all .... i know alot of this is mental because i'm going through alot i mean alot right now emotionally and physically... ( husband walk out and my kids are 4 yr old and 11 months old, and i have no other family here, i had gallstones that i had to have removed....) like i said alot

ok so focusing on this issue.....SO i'm getting in 50 g of Protein (Shakes) and 64 oz of Water ... and no Soup, no yogurt , no Jello .... so very little about 340 carlorie and about 12 g of carbs

had a very bad scare with soupy grits at day 7 and ever since i haven't want anything .....

so for those that have traveled this road before ... my question is do you think my current intake could be harmful to me down the line or stop my weightloss ...

thanks for helping....

I'd try to eat more calories if I were you but I bet I was in about the same place at two weeks out. The first month is a temporary transition and not the way it will always be. Soon you too will have a few bites of regular food at meals! I did find I'd start losing more weight in the early days if I increased calories.

Do you have any higher calorie shakes? I have some I got as samples and have been trying to put one in a day just to add a little calories. I have also heard of people adding some pudding mix to them or fruit blended. How about drinking things that are higher calories - what are you getting 64 oz in? Could you make Decaf tea with regular sugar? Just any little think you can change might help up your calories.

I am so sorry you are going through such a tough time but remember you need to take care of yourself too - for you and your kids :)

I say more calories too! I would be very very very tired on 340 calories. Can you do another shake later in the day or get a higher calorie shake like Libbe said? It sounds like you are doing ok in the Protein department. When I first read your post...was worried you wouldn't be getting enough protein. You are doing OK but guess it could be better. I agree this is a transition period for us....when we are a month out...things should get easier. :)

You might try mixing your shakes with milk. That will help a bit with the calories. Try small amounts of fruit juice. You are definitely in our thoughts. Keep us updated on how you are doing.

I think I was in the same boat for a while at 2 weeks out. I tried to see how I could boost my calories as I could barely get in 400. As time progressed it got easier. I would say for the interum it is ok but for the long haul you would not want to be at that amount of calories. As yes it will do harm to your body over time. Take it easy and try to slowly build your calories up. You will notice that your energy will be low on that low of calories.

I think you'll be fine, Denise, just stay away from the grits. I think mashed potatoes can do that too. I had a little rice and Beans, and my stomach didn't like that at ALL.Don't worry. be happy. It will all work out. - Steve

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
