Rocking my sleeve !!!! NO REGRETS WHATSOEVER!

Recommended Posts

On 8/17 I will be 11 weeks post surgery! I haven't felt this good since I was in my 20s and I am 56 and a half years old!

My feet never swell up, I don't huff & puff, I don't sweat like I'm dying, I have so much energy my friends can't keep up. My cholesterol is normal, my sugar is normal, my blood pressure is much lower but not normal yet. I feel LIGHT ON MY FEET! Walking is fun again. I can go up and down stairs easily. My heart rate only increases when I really move myself -- aerobics, running, climbing stairs. I can barely sit still on most days! My sleep is better. I don't stay up all night.

The biggest negatives for me are reflux and nausea BUT THEY ARE IMPROVING CONSTANTLY. It is very freaky not being totally driven by food and eating and that is taking some getting used to. Getting full, getting sick, sliming are all new and challenging.

I WOULDN'T GIVE MY SLEEVE BACK OR GIVE IT UP IN A HOT NEW YORK CITY MINUTE! This sleeve gave me my life back and I am so thankful I learned about VSG!

I mirror most of that. I have never had any real problems with reflux or nausea (which I am eternally grateful for!) I was sleeved on 3/31/11 and like you haven't felt this good since I was in my 20's. I recently got back to running and was able to go a mile nonstop for the first time a couple of days ago. Now that bug is biting and I need some new shoes!

I passed my goal weight a month ago and have dropped a few more pounds. Now to work on maintaining. Best of luck to you in the continued journey.

I feel the same way! I was thinking if I was fat again tomorrow it still would have been worth it for the experience of the last 6 months! But in reality I get to keep my sleeve and keep feeling so good.

Maybe this group is the one to ask. I am 10 days out and can't drink more than 8 oz a day and can't eat more than 5 bits of anything at a meal. I feel like I need to burp after I drink and have increased saliva after I eat. When were you able to drink and eat "normally" again? When will this uncomfortable feeling go away after I eat or drink?

Thanks for your insight and help!

Skyblue, I wasn't eating anything at 10 weeks! I was instructed to stay on fluide for the first three weeks, then graduate to mushies. You should definitely be drinking more than 8oz per day though!!!!! The first few days I could drink 1 oz in about 8 to 10 minutes. That slowly increased but never more than 8 oz in a 20 minute span. You have to keep sipping ALL DAY! I'n no doctor, but I know you HAVE to get those fluids in. In my case fluids included Protein shakes. I know some people are just on clears for a while others, like me, were on thin liquids (shakes) from the begining. That's something your surgeon will decide so check with him/her. Best of luck. Hang in there. Things do get better!!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
