Just had Sleeve Surgery 8/9/11

Recommended Posts

I Just had my gastric sleeve surgery August 9, 2011 and I am not quite sure what the heck is going on in my stomach. I sip Water and maybe a popsicle but I don't get a full feeling like everyone said I woiuld. I get a funny gas feeling in my upper right of my chest almost like gas pains but not the same. Is this the full feeling everyone talks about?

My weight start was 542 pounds before 2 week boost diet. Today weight 502

I get a gurgling feeling with every sip. I try to sip slow. If I sip a little faster then I will get a feeling like a burp is caught in my chest.. it goes away in seconds.. the next sip is the same so I equate this to the full feeling. I wait about 5 or 10 minutes and then I can sip without this feeling. I am assuming this is the feeling. That tightness that comes after you have been sipping a while. Hope that helps and congrats on loosing 40 pounds already!!! wohoooo!

That's exactly what I feel. Thanks for the quick response. How do you do the tracker at the bottom of your reply?

Thanks for asking this question - this is how I get too! I assumed "full" due to swelling right now. The pain is like when before you took a big gulp that didn't sit right - very odd to me and I hate it, even though it does pass quick.

Just consider it training wheels for your new sleeve. :-) if you can focus on small bites, chew well, and when u drink small sips. I am 3 months out and still have the same thing if I drink to fast. It is getting better, mostly because I am learning how to eat like a sleever. :-) u will too if you fight the head stuff that we all have to deal with. Congrats on your loss an being on an amazing journey to the you that a

My hospital sent me home with an 8-oz sippy cup (I'm trying to keep my 5-yr-old from stealing it!) and I also bought a 24-oz Water bottle from Meijer. It has this neat 'auto-seal' push-button opening that really helps me control my sipping. It looks like this:

I occasionally get that sharp pain from drinking too fast but it passes quickly. I'm learning my limitations quickly!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
