Hi everyone -

It's been one week today since I had my VSG with Dr. Kelly.. Thank you all for your encouragement and support - I woke up!! Recovery for me went well, I didn't vomit nor was i very nauseated. My friend had the opposite experience, I felt bad for her. The overall experience was very good. The team at the hospital were fantastic, they truly have some excellent nurses there. The after care when we went to the hotel was awe striking. Not ever has my doctor come to see how I was doing and he did that all three days. We were fortunate enough to also meet his family as well as meet and speak to Dr. Romero for a while. Since I've been home I'm doing ok and have received two follow up calls as well as some emails. It's good to know and see there is ongoing support..

Since home,I feel somewhat sluggish, with little energy and when I wake up each morning, I feel week and a tad nauseus. Is this normal? I also sometimes get a pain on my left side and I assume it is gas. Is it? I was told that the gas should only last a week and today is a week. Any cause for concern here?

I've been on liquids since the pre-op and struggling a little. I have absolutely no hunger and not sure I'm taking in enoug h Water. Any advice on how to get through the next six weeks. The head hunger has struck and I battle with that as my mind tells me I should be eating. I know I'll get throgh this and know it is temporary.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks

Shelley

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
