Waiting on insurance approval....................

Recommended Posts

I've been waiting since May. :)

I've been waiting since May as well- I got denied in June and sent in an appeal- it was over in appeals for 2 months. I finally got approval last week so now I'm waiting for my

surgeons office to schedule a date. Not sure how long that's going to take.

Hang in there- or consider calling to check with your insurance- that couldn't hurt.

OMG, what do you have for insurance? I would be so upset.. I would definitely give them a prodding. Have they corresponded with you at all? I thought they had 30 day to make a decision. My EGD is Wednesday and then things go off to the insurance company. I do not want to wait many more months. :-( Fortunately my Dr is part of an elite group and has special credentialing, she would not even send it to them for approval until every thing she thought they would want had been done like the EGD and Holter monitor. Good luck, I'd be curious to know the hold up.

I've been waiting since May. :)

You lost 49 lbs so how could your supervised diet have been silly?

I'm with you, jumping through the 6 months of supervised diet hoops. My last appointment is 8/25 then packet goes to insurance. I'm praying and crossing fingers, toes and eyes that we all get approved!

PS...I agree with the "silly supervised diet" comment. It's just a game they're playing, yes losing weight is a plus but I would've lost a lot more if I had been sleeved 6 months ago!

Let me clarify. In the beginning, it was very disappointing to know that I had to do a 6 mo supervised diet. I was ready at that moment for surgery to solve all of my problems. On my first visit to my doctor, I told her that I did not want to waist my time. I wanted to be serious about losing weight and make good use of this time. That is what I did. I learned a lot about myself. I got applause from my pcp and nutritionist about the changes that I have already made in my diet. Sooooo, hindsight sees more clearly. I am glad I went through the 6 months. I can definitely say that I have gotten wiser!

I called and got a rep who was so nice and helpful. It turns out she's waiting for approval for the sleeve, too! After taking a while to track it down, she said it's in process, and they should have answer by Thursday! Woohoo! Fingers crossed for both of us!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
