pre op was today, got some good news

Recommended Posts

I was so nervous last night about my pre op that I couldn't even sleep a wink. I don't know why I was nervous, everything is already approved, and I have lost all of my pre op weight requirement, but I still couldn't shut off the 'what if' voice in my head. The fear of not actually being able to get this surgery at the last minute and all the different reasons why kept running through my mind; instead of the cute little sheep I should have been counting.

Anyhow, my meeting at the doctors office went great and my doctor told me that I could add one egg and one stick of string cheese to my diet a day!! I'm so happy. I have been drinking just Protein Shakes for 9 days now and only cheated with sugar free fudge pops, which my doctor said was ok. (yes I told on myself) He was very pleased with my pre op weight loss as well.

I have the best knews about my deductable/copay for the surgery! I pay NOTHING!!! Can't believe its true but it is! woohoo! So now I'm down to six days and counting till surgery day. Can't wait to rock my sleeve...:D

That is awesome news all around. I would probably kiss my doctor's toes if he said I could have an egg and some cheese. I'm just wrapping up day 1 of 2 weeks of liquids.

Congrats to you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
