Two months post surgey

Recommended Posts

These first two months FLEW by.

I have lost 47lbs post surgery 78lbs including pre-op diet.

Weight loss has come in fits and starts. Nothing for a couple days, then a pound or two per day for a few days. Then back to nada.

Only side effect I have encountered is a complete intolerance for artificial sweeteners (no problem before surgery). This is only a big deal in that it has taken protien powders off the menu, making getting in all my protien a challenge.

Now eating any food I want. No prob getting in 60-80 oz Water

4oz wet food at one time (chili, tuna salad, cottage cheese)

2-3oz dry food (turkey, chicken, cheese)

Average intake over the last 2wks:

427 calories

14g Fat

32g Carbs

43g Protien

Favorite food: Chili (have 1/2c almost every day)

I don't feel any smaller, but clothes are sloppy loose and the tape measure shows -6" from chest and -5" from waist.

Energy is on the comeback however stamina is still not there.

Light exercise: Walk 1 mile 3-4 times a week, weights (light) twice a week.

Regarding the comment (many of you have heard similar) "if you can lose 30lbs before surgey why couldn't you lose it all naturally?"

My reply "Can you hold your breath for 30 seconds? Why can't you hold it for an hour?"

Great post with good info. Like everyone else, I'm lovin' the comeback! I'll try to remember to use that if it comes up.

Question - and you don't have to answer if I'm being too forward for you: Chili seems to be pretty popular with VSG post-op and I'm surprised. I love chili but I would have thought it would 'cause (...ehem) issues - since gas/acid reflux is a problem after surgery. Is this not the case?

Aw, FM.....thank you SO MUCH for the stats and update! You did a great job on what you're eating and put everything in such a clear and concise manner.....loved your post. And I gotta tell ya, I think I'm going to print and frame your answer to the answer that so plagues us all. That was a fantastic replay and it so hits the nail on the head! And almost 50 pounds in a month! Damn.....keep going! It's ones like you I aspire to be like

I can only speak for my experience, but I've had no gas or acid reflux problems. I make my chili meat heavy. 1/2c has 101 calories 1g fat 11g carb 12g Protein. If anything, the Beans help keep the trains running on time :D

What exactly do you mean when you say you have an intolerance to artificial sweetener?

When I eat or drink anything with sucralose my stomach knots up, I vomit, and feel queasy for hours. Not pleasant :(

Soon2BMiniMommy, you are giving me too much credit. It is almost 50lbs in TWO months. (I am still happy)

Good to hear the reply is liked, please feel free to adapt it as your own if the opportunity should present itself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
