Hello ladies or spouses of ladies who have experienced this,

I am 54, and am on Estrogen replacement. I have read many stories of how people leave the hospital after surgery and are told to abruptly stop many, if not all medications. I am reaching the age of the natural change of life, although went through surgical menopause at 29. If anyone has had the experience of stopping HRT as part of the surgery, I would like to know the effects. I personally think using old, stored calories is enough of a challenge to start with, yet do I take advantage of this time to stop the HRT? I do not want the effects of menopause (lack of libido, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood swings etc.) to come crashing down on me on top of all the physical and emotional changes associated with VSG.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am on hormone replacement therapy, and have been almost continuously since I had a hysterectomy in 1990. (At age 33.) I stopped the HRT about 2-3 weeks prior to surgery, and stayed off of them until my 3 week post surgery doctor appt. Then I began them again. I have NO interest in getting off of HRT long term.I don't want all the nasty effects you listed.I feel better on HRT, and if there are risks associated with me being on them, I am willing to accept them. The risk / benefit equation for me is heavily skewed to the benefits. I did have a wicked side effecft after surgery (look for my post "Puberty Hell". I got a bunch of estrogen dumped into my bloodstream as I rapidly lost weight after surgery. Apparently, fat cells store estrogen and release it when you lose weight. I was moody (hired assasin moody) weepy, and wanted to be left alone. Those feelings moderated (thank God).

I would be interested to hear what you decide to do, and your progress after surgery.

If you want to visit more about this, message me.

Sharon

I am 54, lookig to be sleeved in Oct. I had a hysterectomy at 51, still have the ovaries . I was having some hugh mood swings and a fair amount of hot flashes. My gyn put me on an antidepressant zoloft. the mood swings leveled right out and the hot flashes drastically decreases. It was a safer alternative for me than estrogen therapy considering my weight (310). Talk to your gyn see what your alternatives are, what is best for you. Everyone's menopause journey is different

I had a full hysterectomy at age 41, now I'm 50. I only stopped my estrogen for a few days around the time of my surgery. The pill is so small my doc said it was OK to take. So I never experienced any problems post-op. If it's an issue for you, you can ask for the Patches or gel to use for a few months if need be.

Hey,

I am peri menopausal, I had bloods in Jan, 6mths post op and was put onto HRT in Feb... I stayed on them for a short while but the hormones provoked my Migraines, and I was swiftly told to take the patch off... currently I am not taking anything. I was better on them as they reduced the flashes and sweats, mood swings etc... All that is back now, plus the irregular periods... it is horroble. Oh and I am just 40..lol... I say, if you need them, take them!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
