Whey protein...what kind??>

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys...I'm getting sleeved in 2 days (Wed. Aug10th) I has been a bumpy road but I'm finally here!!! I need to lose approx 80-85 lbs. I went to GNC & Walmart today to get a whey Protein Drink and I ended up walking out bc I felt sooo over-whelmed with all of the choices. I want to have everything I need for right after surgery, in case I wasn't feeling up to going out. Is there any suggestions on guidelines or brands? Should they be fortiefied with Vitamins? Are there any kinds w/o taste?flavor that I can just add to water/ The people at GNC and Walmart were not knowledgable on this subject. I hear some people say certain brands gagged them....HELP please!!!!!

My surgery is Wednesday too!! Congrats! and Happy Losing!

I suggest the nectar brand. I buy it at The Vitamin Shoppe (dont' know if that's available in your area) or online, but they are great. Doesn't even taste like Protein powder, mixes super easily, and they have tons of flavors including unflavored. 100 calories, 0 carbs, 0 sugar, 0 fat, and 23 gms carbs per scoop.

Hope I have helped.

Lyn

I use powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury (mail order) which has 20 Protein, 1-4 carbs depending on flavor, no fat. 80 - 100 calories

I mostly use Jay Robb Whey Protein which I buy at the Vitamin Shoppe but it's at some groceries too. 25g protein, 1g carb, 0 fat and 110 calories.

I like the vanilla, mix with 4 oz skim, lactaid milk and 4 oz Water (or crushed isce), and 1 oz sf syrups (Torani, Divinci). Gets my protein in, low carbs, and is not too thick to drink.

Good luck!

Go to the food section of this board and there are a lot of places you can order samples. You can order the nectar samples and samples of many different kinds of Protein drinks.

Most people say their taste changed after surgery, so it's not a good idea to buy a big tub of anything just yet .

A lot of Protein has a high number of carbs... make sure the carbs are less than 5 per serving. Get the samples from bariatric companies... smooth kings gladiator mix is my fact to mix with anything creamy... check out the blog the world according to eggface... lots of food ideas for all stages and product discounts too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
