Hi Kim,

I am from Jacksonville, but did not use Dr. Webb. A couple of people in one of my support groups did though, and they seemed very happy with him. My surgeon was Dr. Herrera at St. Vincent's and I absolutely love him. When are you hoping to have surgery?

Hello! I still need to check into the cost of surgery at St. Vincents. I have found it to be around $17,000 for self pay at the 3 places I have checked so far.

Once I start the process, it should take about 6 weeks. I have been to a seminar and a consultation, and I may want to attend a support group meeting too. I have not yet met anyone that had the band, so it would be nice to get to talk to people that have done it.

Thanks for writing and best of luck!

I'm in Jax, being banded by Dr Baptista on may 20, can't wait. I am also interested in knowing about Dr Webb for a friend of mine.

Jacksonville Weight Loss Center (Drs Cywes and Babtista) do the surgery for $14,450 (self pay) at the Surgery Center in Jacksonville Beach. I went in at 7:00 and was home by 11:30. The hospitals are traditional a more expensive route and if you are self pay you want the best deal possible. Sometimes you HAVE to do it at the hospital if you have some serious health contraindications but if you are otherwise healthy then I would highly recommend the surgery center (outpatient) route.

Hello

I'm in the Jacksonville area (Fleming Island). I need the lap band procedure. Just starting to investigate. Need a GREAT doctor because I'm new to the area and live alone. I would appreciate any information or support you would offer. Thank you.

Hello,

I'm from Jax and am seriously considering the lap band. I'm trying find doctor recommendations, approx cost, and results. If anyone knows of a conference in Florida or Southern Georgia, I would love to attend and will drive wherever I need to go. I just want to do this right and with as small a scar as possible. Thank you

Hi everyone! I am in Jacksonville, and had my band placed on Friday 11/14 by Dr. Baptista at Memorial. I have been very happy with him, and was very happy with Memorial outpatient. I am covered by insurance, so not sure of the cost for selfpay, but am happy to answer any questions I can.

Good luck with getting your procedure. I just had my band on 11/14, and I honestly don't know how anyone could do this alone. Maybe I have just had a hard time, but between the Lortab medicine and the pain, I have needed extensive help from my family. Do you have a friend that could come stay with your during your first week at least?

Sam

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
