Hey all,

So when did your doc tell you that you no longer had to crush pills? And when if ever can we take our vitimins and chewable Calcium in a different form????? Oh and how soon were you able to stop drinking the Protein crap and eat enough protein in a day???? Thanks, Tracy W.

I took pills whole right away, had no problems with any of them.

It'll be a month or more before you can eat enough to get enough Protein to stop the shakes, although you will probably drink them for months or years sometimes to supplement your Protein intake on days you just don't eat enough.

Tracy,

I never had to crush pills, have taken them as normal since surgery with no problems. I just ran out of Gummy Vitamins about 6 weeks post-op and just went to regular, my surgeon said this was fine.

I am 7 weeks and can physically eat enough to get the Protein from food, however it would be at the risk of getting too many calories. I could eat meat, cheese, eggs etc all day but instead eat those in moderation and use Protein shakes to keep my calories down. I’m not crazy about them but they really are helpful for getting in those grams of Protein without all of the fat and cholesterol.

I took my pills in the hospital the next morning after my surgery. My dr's rule was no bigger than an m&m. If it was smaller than that, I could swallow it. All my meds were, so I was good.

I did chewable vitamins for 4 weeks and then was cleared for pills on those.

Kelly ;)

Dito to the pills. Was taking them 1 day post-op (my meds)...and I don't mind the chewables, so I'm going to continue on the supply I have.

As for getting all my Protein in...at about 5 weeks I am able to get all my Protein in just with food. I have to say I TOTALLY agree with Douceur72 about the Protein shake being a good quick sub... 1 week without them and it seemed my calories went up almost 200/day. That's fine and all...but sometimes it's just nice to be done with it. This morning I had a shake for the first time in about a week and it was nice to have 27 grams off my radar. Meat/cheese/egg didn't sound appealing this morning. I can't even believe I said that out loud BAHAHA

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
