Exercise...twice a day??

I recently read somewhere that one can increase metabolism by exercising 2x per day. Anyone heard of this? I went to a strength training class this morning at my local YMCA and am thinking of going to Zumba this evening. Am I crazy??? Or am I onto something?

I sometimes walk in the morning and run at night. Or walk twice a day.

Just depends on how energetic I am feeling. NOT today tho!! LOL!! :D

If you have the energy to exercise 2X per day, I say go for it. If you are doing serious weight lifting, you need to give your body a break, are you lifting to that extent? If not - enjoy and watch the pounds / inches disappear!

Weight/strength training and cardio are 2 different types of exercise. Cardio is for burning fat and strengthening your heart/lungs while weight training is solely to increase muscle mass which will, in turn, help you burn more calories at rest. I cant speak it's effectiveness in raising metabolism, but I do a cardio work out 5 to 6 days a week and add weight training 2 days/week for double exercise on those days.

Have you looked into burst training (interval training)? My trainer has me do this when I use the elliptical to help speed up my metabolism and keep it elevated for a longer period after I'm done working out.

No heavy lifting here! I used small weights in the class as it was my first time. I really liked it tho...I am going to try this twice a day thing for the next week or two and see what happens... It sure was fun. Now that I have a little bit of endurance and am not huffing and puffing all the time, the exercise is alot of fun. I love my ZUMBA classes!!

It can help you especially when plateau-ING. You can even break a regular 45 min work out in 22 min. 2x per day and boost your metabolism. It stokes the fire and can help your body release more fat/burn more calories for longer. Yay for you for having the health and energy to want to!! Joan

I think it's an ok strategy if you have an event in a week or two, but otherwise, I think it's a little excessive - assuming you mean challenging workouts rather than simply walking or something else low impact. Good pointers above on making sure your morning and evening sessions are different, e.g. cardio in the AM and weights in the evening, or lifting weights for different body parts in the AM vs. PM. Make sure you don't overtrain - your body becomes stronger during rest periods, not workouts, so excessive working out is not necessarily the most efficient way to go about fitness.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
