Is this too much water?

Recommended Posts

I am on my Pre-Op diet and have been drinking 20 glasses (8 oz) of Water each day. Is that too much? Will it cause me damage? It has been a great way to keep the hunger down but I don't want to do anything harmful.

20 glasses? How do you stay out of the bathroom and have time to do this?

Like anything - you can over do. Call your surgeon or PCP to get solid answers. Drinking too much Water (I do not know how much since I am not a medical professional) can do your body harm. Take a walk and do not stress. Good luck.

160 oz of Water a day will not harm you... If you tried to do that in an hour or two it could dilute your electrolyte balance and cause some damage but over the course of the day is fine.

At 300 lbs, my recommended daily water intake is 150 oz....

Yeah, I drank at least that much pre-op. Nothing to worry about. Just know, as others have posted, you will be unable to get anywhere near that post-op. I struggle to get the 64 oz.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
