Citracal Calcium Gummies

Recommended Posts

I have surgery on Thursday and have gotten most of the things I need to have post-surgery for convenience sake. I have sublingual B12 and chewable Multivitamins.

My plan was to use Citracal, but II suddenly don't want to be crushing what is sure to be a nasty tasting Calcium citrate pill.

It seems I have two main options: an order to Bariatric Advantage shipped to my parents' house where I'll be recovering or purchasing Citracal Chewable gummies. I know Viactiv is a bad choice due to it being Calcium Carbonate, but apparently the Citracal chewables are something called Tricalcium Phosphate. Is that acceptable? If nobody knows, I'll try to call my hospital nutritionist to find out. I can buy the Citracal in stores, and it's a bit cheaper than the Bariatric Advantage.

The other side to this is has anybody eaten these Citracal gummies? How are they?

My NUT says they are fine for a sleeve pt but you have to chew 4 per day. I don't mine because they are close to candy. You can search online for $2 off coupons. I buy then 2 bottles at a time. They are probally the only Vitamin I enjoy.

The Citracal gummies are the BEST! They dissolve totally, easily. The nurse who runs my support group suggested these, as the staff had just tasted them. So, I highly recommend them. :D

I spoke with my pharmacist to see if these are a good choice for me post surgery (because I'm on Prilosec). He said yes, these are excellent. And I personally look forward to taking them because they're yummy, so they're easy to remember.

I have seen them, but have not tried them. I use the pills sometimes, I am 4 months out.

I also want you to know that Bariatric Advantage has AWESOME calcium citrate chews. The lemon, chocolate and caramel ones are SOOOO YUMMY. Those are the only ones I have tried. I also use Calcet chocolate fudge and lemon. They are like little petit fours. SOOO GOOD!

I mix it up with the citrate and use all of the above. Try some of the chewable ones. They are sooo good!

Kelly :)

calcium citrate is the only form of Calcium that is asborbed after sleeve surgery IF you are taking a PPI such as prilosec, zantec, pepcid, aciphex, protonix, nexium, etx.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
