wondering1 103 Posted August 7, 2011 Today is the last day of my pre-op diet and I'm a little concerned. The first few days I lost 7 lbs. Since Day 4, I haven't lost one bit! Not even 1/2 a pound. I haven't been eating, I've been following the Optifast program getting almost 800 calories per day. Why am I not losing weight? Believe me I am hungry but not giving in to any temptations because I want my liver to shrink and I don't want my surgery cancelled. Why haven't I lost any weight in the past few days? Thanks. MeMeMEEE 206 Posted August 7, 2011 I have been similar - lost bout 9 lbs over all, usually staying around 800 calories. I feel like I have some Fluid retention myself and of course Aunt Flo showed up Thursday. I have to do bowel prep today - drink a whole bottle of magnesium citrate - thinking that ought to show on the scale in the AM - ick! I'm also only to have one Protein Drink today and one food from my list - probably cream of wheat as I feel like it will stick with me best then only Clear Liquids. I had to go to the Dr office Friday for my preop meeting and was only down about 3 lbs since the time before and they didn't say a word.
myrori 55 Posted August 7, 2011 Your bodies have entered starvation mode. Your body is like "What the heck?" It figures it is under attack and holding on to everything for dear life! No worries,, You will be dropping weight after surgery! Congrats on sticking to your guns and your soon to be sleeve!
Jimmy James 0 Posted August 7, 2011 Some in a support group meeting I had to attend actually reported GAINING weight (like a pound or two) on the pre-op. The point of the pre-op according to my hospital is to shrink the liver, not to lose weight. That's why I have been so bemused by the people who have asked me for a copy of the liver shrinking diet because they figure they'll try it out to lose a few pounds. With that said, I was very bad in the weeks before my pre-op started. I hit 450 after bouncing around 420-430 for most of my supervised diet. I had several last hurrahs. I'm back down to 426 since I started the pre-op. I think it's a YMMV.
