6 month diet, gained weight

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I have been on this forum many times as a reader only so here goes. I have just finished everything that is required for VSG, having a EGD done on tues am, after that just need insurance approval, during my 6 month diet i actually lost and gained with the last months weight up 10 pounds from 6 month diet start. During this six months our home was flooded during the flooding back in april and we were displaced and it was hard to eat healthy and stay focused due to having to eat all meals out in addition to being stressed to the max, our home is in the flood zone and we were expected to have 6-10 foot of river Water in our basement (GROSS) I did gain then, also my meds for high blood pressure started to cause my legs and ankles to swell, and i mean my feet, ankles and calves were all the same size from my knee down, extremely painful and difficult to exercise, i didnt gain but didnt lose either. During my last 6 month I had all my blood work done and it was found that my thyroid levels have gotten higher and my primary care provider said there was no way that i would lose weight with that going on and not being treated correctly, all of this of course is dictated in my records. My question is this: has anyone had insurance (or weight loss surgeon) denie surgery for a weight gain of 10 pound?

I have Cigna and they didn't require any specific weight loss, just that you go through a medically supervised weight loss period. I gained 12 lbs during the 6 months...and then even more before I finally had surgery. I was approved on the first try. I chose Cigna through my school system over Blue Cross for that reason. Our Blue Cross policy would have required a 10% weight loss, and I knew that I didn't have it in me any more to do that. Your policy may be different. My PCP actually recommended the surgery, in part, based on the fact that I had actually gained 12 lbs.

Thanks, my doctor also said that she doubted that I would be turned down because of this but you never know with these things. I dont want to jeapordize any chance of getting the sleeve done, I have been so patient, and tried so hard just to have gained-again. Same old same old I guess, thanks for responding like you did, I do feel better about it, if it was so easy I wouldnt need this help in the first place right? I also have insurance through my school system-Humana so I hope its the same thing-it was the information I recieved from the surgeons office so that may not even be a requirement from the insurance company, I can only wait and see...

I have Kaiser and they make you have a goal weight. If I came in the day of surgery even 1 lb. over my goal weight, they would cancel my surgery! They're pretty harsh. A girl in my last preop class was crying because they cancelled her surgery for being over her goal weight. They'd still do the surgery, but after you are at or below your goal weight, no exceptions.

Wow! I know you are disappointed to have gained weight. What if you have problems after surgery? Do you feel you will be able to adapt and still manage to lose weight? Surgery won't make you lose. It only helps you to eat less while you diet and exercise.

During my six months, I had to prove something to myself. It is still hard everyday to make the right choice especially when my family eats mostly whatever they feel like eating. They are the ones who applaud me the most because of that fact.

I pray that you have success and less stress on your new journey!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
