carolina girl 56 Posted August 5, 2011 I'm sure it tastes great, but... it's got 44gms of sugar in a 12 oz serving along with 48gms of carbs. My doctor says "no no no" to Protein Drinks with more than 3gms of sugar and 3gms of carbs. This is the kind of Protein Drink meant for hard core athletes who would burn off the sugar and carbs in a normal workout, not so much for us trying to lose pounds, we've got to stay away from these. FishingNurse 1,211 Posted August 5, 2011 my NUT said this is acceptable in the first few weeks when we are not having any other food intake. This would be a once a day type thing of course.
carolina girl 56 Posted August 5, 2011 Wow... must be nice!! I want to have your NUT! My NUT says no food of any kind, only liquids and Protein drinks that fall into the "less than 3gms" rule for two weeks, then pureed foods and protein drinks the third and fourth week and those pureed foods must be high protein foods; pureed meat, Beans, eggs. I have noticed on here that every Dr./NUT has a different recommendation. A girl at work had the same surgery and her Dr/NUT only recommended 50 to 70gms of protein a day ,while mine says 90 to 100 gms. We were about the same weight and height so I'm trying to figure out why the big difference in our numbers. Whatever your NUT recommends just go with it. I wish you the best of luck in this crazy journey we're on!
rubyspring 1 Posted August 5, 2011 My regime is a lot like carolina girl's with a limit on carbs of 15 grams per drink. Goal is 70 Protein per day. One thing I am aware of is higher carbs will trigger more hunger; so be careful of the high carb drinks.< /p>
longer-life 139 Posted August 5, 2011 I noticed it is lactose free. I haven't had surgery, but will keep this in mind. Thanks for sharing!
MimiMermaid 13 Posted August 5, 2011 My Dr. says, only Protein drinks with less than 5 grams of carbs per and also 70-90 grams of protein per day.
weho 103 Posted August 5, 2011 My doctor says keep it under 10 grams sugar. There is NO WAY that I would drink something with 40 grams of sugar! Be careful girl, we can get dumping syndrome too. That large amount of sugar in a semi-starvation state can cause some serious issues...be careful!
