Heavy Periods since 4 weespost surgery-please help w/ any info

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

This question is for my sleeve sisters out there who are in their forties, possibly pre-menopausal , and just had sleeve surgery. Has anyone experienced REALLY HEAVY menstrual cycles that just won't quit? Just when I think it's gone, there it is, back and heavier than the last time. I was having regular, 28 day cycles like clockwork, just had all my pap/exam stuff done. I am also swelling like crazy in my feet and lower legs. That has let up a bit by INCREASING my Water from 64 oz. to 80 oz. I tell ya, with the bleeding and Water bloat, I don't know how I am getting by. The doc said it is because fat has loads of hormones in it, so my fat is disappearing, and the hormones are havin' a going away party!

By the way, I hit an 6 WEEK STALL!!! Got on the scale today, and down 9 more pounds! Thank God. I was losing hope!

SURGERY DATE:May 31st, 2011

2 WEEKS OUT: 30 Lb loss-then stall, stall, stall

8 weeks out:39 Lb loss Finally nine more pounds

(Total pre surgery and now :59lbs.)

If anyone can help with the period thing, please let me know. I am desperate. The docs don't seem concerned. I am not in pain, but it is not fun, as you can imagine.

HAVE A GREAT DAY, EVERYBODY!!!!!!!

I am in my 20s but I can tell you that my cycles have gotten sooooo much heavier and I end up in a lot of pain since surgery. However mine are even shorter now.

Thanks for the reply. no one else has answered. The period has sincestopped and I dropped 17 pounds in two days. I know the six week stall had something to dop with my hormones. Thanks

If you continue to have heavy periods (and if you don't want kids), you can ask your ob/gyn about an endometrial ablation. It can help. I had one about a year ago, and I haven't had a period since. I have four kids, so I didn't want another one. :)

I had an ablation a couple years ago.....was sleeved in March. Two of the best things I've ever done for myself! I was not having periods at all prior to my surgery, but have had one every month since about 2 weeks post op. Nothing heavy, a couple of spots for a couple of days, but wasn't having any prior to being sleeved. So yeah, lots heavier than what was my normal. This month has finally tapered off a bit, and I would bet by next month I will be back to my normal.

And yeah, heading towards the big 49 this year, so I'm sure the whole production thing was way past prime prior to my surgeries :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
