Not getting in enough liquid

Recommended Posts

Ladies and Gents.......Please, Please, Please tell me I am not alone here. I am drinking constantly (or so it seems) and when I add up all of my liquids, I am hitting maybe 40-45 oz. WHAT? That can't be. I am SOOOO SCARED right now. I promise I am really trying but it's not working. And to top it off, I am trying to work in the Protein. Like that's going to happen if I can't get in my liquids. I broke down and cried my eyes out last night and this morning. I have a call in to the Dr. office to see what they say but I really don't know what to do. I sip, sip, sip...like it has been drilled in me. I try just a little bit larger drinks and that hurts so back to just sipping. I have to have everything room temperature because cold stuff just hurts. All I can say is HELLLPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Contrary to popular myths the amount of Water drink does not have to be a set amount. YES it is good to drink plenty of clean cool Water but it is NOT necessary to drink "6 glasses", "8 glasses" or X ounces a day.

Drink enough that you are urinating a few times a day and you urine is clear or just slightly tinted yellow, it it smells strongly and is bright yellow, orange or heaven forbid BROWN then you are NOT drinking enough and you need to increase your intake.

ANY liquid not containing too much salt or otherwise acts like a diuretic (like caffeine) counts in your intake but plain water is the best and is basically FREE and is the basic element you need. If you just can't choke down plain water then try flavoring it with a sugar free drink mix like Crystal Light or SF Cool Aid, flavor to suit your taste.

How far out from surgery are you? I know my surgeon wasn't really too concerned for the first 2 weeks about my Protein intake as long as I was keeping hydrated. Sipping is really all you can do in the beginning. I was told that I should shoot for 64 oz each day of fluids but 40 was good at the very beginning. Remember that your Protein Drinks also count as fluids. So does any Crystal light, broth or other things you drink. Right after surgery, your sleeve is very swollen and can't handle much at once. Don't worry...IT WILL GET BETTER!!!!

Keep up the good work!

Living the dream,

Laura

I don't know how far out you are, but I am just over 3 months and I rarely get 64oz a day!!

It is so hard to do when you cant drink after a meal or before or this or that! I drink all damn day and still don't get it in. I don't think you REALLY HAVE to get that much in, that is just the GOLD STANDARD for anybody. You should drink that much daily regardless of surgery or not!

I think if you are drinking Water and urinating and it is not orange, you are fine! I have not had issues and my dr. told me to do my best!

Kelly ;)
