Hello everyone -

I am new to this website although I have been reviewing it for a while now. My friend and I are going for our VSG on Saturday - yes three days away with Dr. Kelly in Tijuana Mexico. While my friend is excited, I'm nervous and have anxiety! I want to be sure I wake up. I know it may sound silly and I need reassurance that all will go well. I have not told ANYONE in my family as I feel that will just add to the stress and know they will tell me I look fine. I carry weight well although, I want 50-60 pounds gone forever! I'm excited for the end results, I guess just getting there is a little daunting. Any thoughts, insights that you can give me, is SO appreciated.

Warm Thanks

Shelley

Hi Shelly, well first of all - Congrats on your decision! It doesn't look like you really have much to lose, so that is an added bonus for you!

That said, do not worry!! Easier said than done, I know. It takes a real toll on our nerves just right before surgery. You are completely normal in all your feelings... of excitement, apprehension, joy and of course fears. Just get through it, and hold on tight to your dreams.

I spent a lot of time in the Success Stories areas and perused the Photo Galleries too. I would read and read and read here until my mind just dripped of information. It really helped to ease my mind that I was doing the right thing... and now I can truly truly say it was because I'm exactly where I wanted to end up - and then some.

Hugs :)

Girl, I was scared silly about not waking up from surgery also. I can not tell you how elated I was when I "came to" after surgery. In my mind it was just a split second from the time I went to sleep to the time I woke up. It was a nice little nap. I was given some "happy juice" before my surgery to calm my nerves...but I was still crying like a baby on the way to the OR. In recovery, the first words out of my mouth was "Thank you Jesus!" I'm so glad I made the decision to have this surgery. I feel blessed. I will say a prayer for you...I remember what a wreck I was the week before surgery. I think that is why recovery for me was a breeze. I was just happy to be alive and complication free! Please keep me updated!

Please don't feel alone that is the same thing I keep thinking. Lord just please let me wake up from surgery. I have a 3 year old and I just need to make it safe and sound there and back.

Are you going with Julia to Dr. Kelly and you both are from Canada? She mentioned she was going with a friend.

I went to Dr. Kelly on the 25th of July.. and believe me-- I thought the SAME THING up until they knocked me out. Be assured that Dr. Kelly is a great surgeon, and he has a ton of experience to back that up. You will be fine!! Good Luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
