Aussies looking at plastic surgery

Recommended Posts

This is just a little FYI on plastic and reconstructive surgery in Australia.

If you want your health fund to help pay, make sure you get a referral from your GP, and get a referral to a reconstructive surgeon. Not just a plastic surgeon. PS & RCS use different item numbers.

Depending on your fund, and cover, you could end up paying very little for surgery.

That's interesting.

I dont think I'll need a Tummy Tuck, but my stomach wont be cover girl material either. But my boobs, oh, boo hoo, what a disaster. I've fed 3 babies for 6 years in total, so that's a bad start, take away 23 kg or so (and another 13 to go) and its not pretty. To top it off, I have one larger than the other, by about half a cup size. I was trying on bathers the other day, to see if I have any to take away with me (I dont) and I honestly need a grandma suit with inbuilt bra now.

I wonder if one being bigger than the other could be reason enough to have it covered? Hmmm, they're DD's so I could always play up the back and neck ache thing too, and they DO get in my way when I run.

I'd love to have it done, but I couldnt, wouldnt, take the money away from my family for something like that.

I've decided I want a chin implant too, lol. I have a slightly "weak" chin, when I'm old I"m going to have one of those chins that joins into my neck, ugly ugly ugly. Its alright now I have long hair to hide it but I doubt I'll want long hair forever.

Good luck with yours! You've come so far, its an inspiring story.

Wow...I wish I had of known that 3 mths ago, I ended up about $25000 out of pocket.

Good Luck for your surgery, it will be the best thing(besides banding) that you will ever do for yourself.

Sammi,

Just my opinion, but I dont think the pain is anything it is made out to be. My caesar was far worse but the TT has been a longer recovery as in trying to stand straight and swell hell. I am going on 4 mths out and another bout of swelling has hit me big time. I mean you would swear I am 6 mths preggers in the evening. Be prepared for insane swelling, discomfort, frustration and depression while healing....but also be prepared for waking up and looking down at a flat belly, standing for the first time and feeling tight tummy muscles and no overhang, shaving the bikini line and not having to hold the belly up, no slapping when you run, going down a size or 2, wearing hipsters and looking good...and lots lots more!!!!!

I cant begin to explain how it has changed me and I am so excited for you. You honestly cannot imagine how different it will be after.

Good Luck and dont worry or panic leading up to the surgery, easy for me to say I know but just focus on the after.

Big Hugs

Another thing ... your garment is your best friend for a long time, keep it on at all times, make sure its crotchless for easy toileting haha. Also at about 4 weeks get the silicone strips - they rock.

Thanks Kell, thank you! It puts my mind at rest knowing that it is not really that awful. I tend to prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. Not a good attitude to take at times, lol.

If you feel comfy doing so, would you mind sharing (PM'ing, or I can email my email) some pics of you further out? I remember your post when you first had your TT, and thank you for sharing them. It really helped me decide that this was something that was worth doing.

((hug))

Oh, and how are the wedding plans going?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
