People carry weight differently?

Recommended Posts

Guest Rosalind

I was in the physician required Support Group and there was a woman sitting beside me that looked atleast 50 lbs heavier that me. I was shocked when she said she weighed 10 lbs less. (I never revealed my weight):nono: . People there were asking me why I was having surgery??? I know I have lost 35 lbs but I am a lot heavier than I look and apparently...........she is a lot smaller than she looks>:confused2:

People said that I didn't need surgery either!!

I am TALL and weighed 225 day of surgery, 280 at my highest. I was heavy, but very well porportioned. I was fat everywhere and not just my legs and stomach.

When people learn I have lost 95lbs already, they are like "did you even have that much to loose???" flattering, but i didn't look that big! because i am tall!

People do carry weight differntly and I am living proof of that. I definatly look different that someone that is 5ft 2in. tall that weighs the same amount.

Hope this helps.

kelly :)

I am short but I have a shape as well. I am well proportioned too.....my legs are thick and I carry a lot of muscle. Maybe that is it?

People seem to carry their fat different places. Mine is carried all in my belly and kind of up high. I don't really have any hips so I am not proportional. Very Ugly! Carrying the weight this way makes me look and feel very clumsy...

Yup, people do carry weight differently. Most people think I weigh somewhere around 200 to 220. In reality I was 288. Mine is concentrated in my torso and upper legs. I had in January bought myself size 28W for the first time ever. Right now, if you were to look at me without clothing, it almost looks like I am pregnant in my torso, but still have big thighs.

Thanks for posting! At 275 and 5'3", I wear a loose 22 pants...........that is with a big butt. The only reason I wear a 22/24 top sometimes is because I have huge arms. I usually wear a 18/20 tops. (women sizes)

I asked my doctor what a realistic weight is for me. She said 160 would be a good number. She said it is funny how people carry weight differently because I don't look like I weigh as much as I do! That may make some feel better but my knees still carry 275lbs! That is the reality of the situation. That is the only comorbity I have. That is not bragging because reality also is that in time, I will have many more comorbities if I don't handle this now.

Yeah, I am a size 16 up top and a size 20 on bottom. I carry it all in my hips and thighs. I hate it. I can't wear dresses because they are either too big up top or too small on bottom. I would love to be proportionate one day.

People do carry weight differently. I saw posts of someone who is 20lbs more than me wearing a size 6 and I wear a size 10!!!! Everyone's body is different.

I COULDN'T STAND when people said I didn't look "big enough" to have surgery. Even a NURSE in the bariatric hospital said it to me. Keep your eyes on the prize and remember this is about getting healthy. Looking HOT is a great side effect! GOOD LUCK!:D

And that is another thing, I weigh 185 and wear a loose size 12.

You would think I would wear a much bigger size at that weight. I am sure some of my weight is my height.

I agree with the topic of this thread - people really do carry weight differently. I have always "weighed more than I looked like". At the start I weighed 253. I wore 24W clothes and 3X tops were loose - but 2X's were snug. Now that I have lost 79 pounds ( I weigh ~174 on dr's scales), I am wearing a 14. I am broad shouldered, have a dough boy spare tire, small hips and a flat ass. I think people think I weigh less because I am broader in my shoulders than my hips. And there is no way I will every wear size 4 anythings - my skeleton would probably never fit into that size. :P

It's true for the guys sometimes too. I now weigh 222 and people say I look like I weigh 180. My size LARGE shirts hang on me loosely, my size 36 pants are baggy. I have it in the hips thighs and I generally carry a little fat EVERYWHERE, feet, hands, face. I also seem to carry a lot of inter abdominal and inter thoracic fat, which is really bad stuff to have as it can press on your organs and cause serious issues.

This reminds me of when I went to the Bariatric seminar. I was clearly the smallest one in the room.(5'4 230 size 14/16) I got all the awkward looks. I had my psych eval today and my therapist asked me if I was even 100 lbs overweight because I didn't look like it...but Yup. I carry my weight all over.

When I was at my highest ever weight 281 lbs I was 9 mo pregnant and wore 2x tops and 18/20 jeans at 5'4. I have no clue why I carry my weight in a way that looks a lot less.. I'm porportioned minus the fact that I have a flat ass. LOL.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
