Possible Stomach Virus???

Recommended Posts

One month post-op & I'm experiencing really hard stomach cramps & diarrhea!!! Is this normal at this stage?? My stomach is making gurgling sounds too!! I already can't get enough fluids down so I'm afraid with the diarrhea I'll get dehydrated...the more I try to drink I get super nauseated!! Ughhhhh!! Helpppppp!!!!

No, this is not normal at all. At this point you should be enjoying going off liquids and trying mushies. I would try cutting out the dairy for a day to see if you have developed lactose intolerance. LI is notorious for causing gas, cramping and diarrhea. Don't drink ice cold Water, and don't drink it fast, that causes diarrhea for me. Drink cool water and sip sip sip all day. If neither of these pertain to you perhaps someone else has some other ideas. But if your condition lasts more than a couple of days without slowing down, I think you should call your doctor.

Ijust got over the stomach virus. My wife just had diarrhea and nausea forthree days. I had both plus server stomach cramps for 4 days. They would takeyour breath away. Went to my surgeon (scheduled appointment), they said thiswas normal. All better now, I hope you get to feeling better.biggrin.gif

There is something going around right now! I would say sip sip sip, get some Gatorade G2 to help with electrolytes.

Thanks to everyone! I do agree the spasms take my breath away..it's basically like contractions I have to breathe through them. I tried to eat & drink & it hurts sooooo bad! Feels like my esophagus is sore & anything that's trying to go down can't fit..I hope this gets better!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
