My comment:

Mini Me

I had the sleeve surgery in January 2010. I am down to a "normal" BMI of 20.5 and finally enjoying my life again. The sleeve restricts intake because it is so much smaller and "only holds so much". Of course, I only resorted to surgery after years of losing weight and failing to maintain. The yo-yo dieting was worse on my health than being obese. Yes, I can eat all day or drink my calories, but if I follow my plan, I can eat nutritious foods, the occaisional "bad" food, and maintain a healthy weight the rest of my life. It's definitely not easy, but at least it's not impossible like it was before.

Before judging others with "eat less donuts" or "just keep your big mouth shut", try to put yourself in the shoes of someone who has struggled with this for their entire life. This is definitely not something to be considered lightly, but for many can save their lives along with the quality of that life.

Bravo! The naturally skinny & those without a major weight problem simply have NO IDEA what life is like on our side of the fence. I have friends that eat more junk in larger quantities than I did pre-sleeve but are still at a normal BMI in middle age, no less. They supported my decision to have surgery but even now cant understand why I couldn't just eat less without having to resort to such a drastic measure. Bless their hearts...

I read through a bunch of the comments. People are clueless about nutrition or any data about long term weight loss and SO MEAN! Kudos to those of you sleeved who are writing such great comments.

Sleeve surgery may have saved my life. 56 years old, morbidly obese, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and now high sugar. I was sleeved on 6/1/11. No it isn't EASY but only another obese or fat person would understand that but it is working and I'm losing weight despite the GERD and nausea. My numbers are dropping and not just my weight numbers. VSG will allow me to eat very small quantities of foods I normally enjoy. Skinny people have no insight into what causes we obese to eat despite it being unhealthy for us -- but now I have a surgically induced eating disorder -- like when they gave "anabuse" to alcoholics. I over eat even a little and I become deathly ill. I eat and drink Water at the same time and I get sick. I eat food that is fried -- I get sick. I find it hard to believe but I get sick enough that I've become "fearful" of eating and am very circumspect about what I eat. I have lost 52 pounds so far. Let's see if the nausea and GERD go away.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
